  • All my toms are outside.

One has 9 trusses and I harvested the first fruit over a week ago. Plenty of more fruit on, but all of it green and no signs of red. I think it's about time I pinched out the growing tip

August is forecast to be better than July though, I hope it makes up for the terrible weather we've had so far and all my toms ripen in the end.

    • all of my toms are outside, except one Shirley in the greenhouse. the outside ones are a mix of cherry, normal, beefsteak and plum varieties - i think we have 60 plants, 12 varieties.

we have quite a lot of small, green toms, but nothing anywhere near fully grown, nothing anywhere near turning ripe.

the bottom leaves on every plant have turned yellow.

very disappointing .... but if the weather doesn't improve, it could be loads of green tomato chutney ....

              • Have I done the right thing by taking 2/3rds of the leaves off my Tom plants?
I noticed a few were mouldy & I was terrified the spores would circulate around the greenhouse. It's been so damp in there for weeks now & everytime I get it dry, the polycarbonate glass is dripping again.

                  • Lots of fruit but nothing near to ripening, yet. Have trimmed some leaves off to help air circulation, but I daren't go in the greenhouse today without some sort of bio-suit, not with Blight in the area! Got some 'creases' appearing on the beefsteaks, plus I can tell which are the tigerellas, now, which is something!

                    • Feeling rather depressed about my toms. I've got a couple of red alert with lots of green fruit on, so I'm OK with this.

But the rest are behaving oddly. In the GH I've got these big lovely looking green plants, with several trusses, but almost no fruit. They're not dropping flowers, but a lot of the fruit is remaining resolutely pinhead sized. I'm hoping that they're just finishing off their main leaf phase then they put their undoubted energy into fruit, but as it is, I'm not happy.

As for outside, well, I wouldn't bother either, if I was a tomato.

Mine are 5ft tall (nipped the tip out, so won't grow taller), outside, started in March and brought outside in April. I've harvested some fruit too.

                              • Popped up to the plot after getting back from holidays and some plants have started to ripen. Here's a selection ...
From the top ... marmande, tigerella (believe it or not), datterini, gardeners delight and golden sunrise.

Except for the gardeners delight they are smaller than they should be, especially the tigerella They are all the lowest fruit though and the ones higher up are normal size but yet to ripen. Just happy I can at last start to eat tomatoes!!!
