      • mmm - my book says that fruit (Fire) Zodiac signs are Aries Leo and Sagittatius -whereas Cancer Scorpio and Pisces (Water signs) are for leaves.

        Very strange

Correct Thelma - I clipped the wrong bit. At least you were listening/looking sorry

          • Biodynamic Calendar Principles

Earth signs - Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn = Root

Water signs - Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio = Leaf

Light/Air signs - Gemini, Libra, Aquarius = Flower

Warmth/Fire signs - Aries, Leo, Sagittarius = Fruit

            Are we all agreed?

            • I'm going to stick with the chart that has pretty pictures. I can understand that - all this astrological stuff means little to me and I'm confused enough as it is!

              • You do that. It's the same anyhow isn't it VC?! I haven't looked in great detail I must admit.

                • I've always used Synodic and for the last few years combined it with Sidereal - and the info I had told me not to plant anything during the fire signs, but I think I'll try Biodynamic this year and follow your advice.
The problem with rounded personalities is they don't tesselate.

Yes, VVG, it seems to be (approximately!) the same as your Biodynamic calendar. Fruits for the next 2 days. Now where did I put those tomato seeds?

                    • The more I read this thread the more confused I become! I've always shied away from lunar gardening as I'm short on time as it is and more restrictions on what I should be doing when would give me more problems. That said, have always been a bit interested. I had assumed that it would be very area specific ie would would be right here in mid winter would be different in, say Austrailia and perhaps things would even be different in different parts of the UK but this thread seems (I may be misreading) to say that it's world wide, very confused about this, can anybody explain in simple terms without telling me it's obvious.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Presumably, we are talking about the moon - that affects the whole planet not just bits of it?

Eh? I'm talking about how it works and if it's global on the same day. I mean, doesn't the fact that the otherside of the world is seeing far less of the moon at this time of year mean that different things work well for them than us at the moment? SIMPLE replies please, am genuinely trying to work it out so don't need more confusion

                          • As a complete and utter novice at this, having picked up nearly all of my knowledge on the Vine (thank you VVG & Zaz) its the moon's phases that dictate what you do, and these phases occur right around the world. BUT what you, in the UK would sow as a fruit today, would be completely different to what they would sow in Australia because the seasons are different. Also, because today is a fruit day, it doesn't mean that any fruit that is sown will succeed, you still have to have regard to your normal gardening calendar. The moon is not a miracle worker, but gives you a better chance of success than otherwise!
"Planting by the Moon" according to VC
                            Overlap with Alison's reply!

                            • Totally get that sowing something totally out of season won't work, that's not the confusion (although I may be confusing in general!). What I don't understand is how we can be on a root day (say) th same day as they are on the other side of the world, don't the phases of the moon depend on its position in relation to the sun and earth which will vary depending on where you are at the time? I thought that the phases were effectively new moon, full moon etc etc

                              • There are Northern and Southern hemisphere calendars but I don't want to Goggle any further for risk of confusing myself even more. I'm just going to accept the principle and follow the simple picture calendar
