Has my onion bolted?

One of the Red Karmen onions in our raised bed that I planted as a set has a triangular shaped "thing" at the top of one if it's leaves. Is this a seed head and what do I do with said onion if it is? This is the first time we've tried growing onions.

I've just had to pull all my autumn sets up because of the dreaded white rot!

Snadger - I am trialling small raised beds full of sand on areas with white rot.....do you want to assist in a trial? I had onions in the ground all winter in a raised bed full of sand and not a squeak of rot [and the same bad had white rot the last summer].

I was thinking of growing 9 onions in the sandy bed, with 9 right next to it, all winter, and seeing the differences. Bed about 15 inches square.

I'm doing it anyway but a double trial would be interesting.

Onions!!!

Ive had some onions growing now for a few months, and the stems are looking nice and thick, But over this last week, I/ve had some pods growing on the top of them, and was wondering if it meant they were ready, or just about to go to seed, or about to flower, and wanted some advice what to do. Are they ready to dig up, if they are seed pods, can i keep the seed and plant out?

They are bolting, you'll need to pinch off the tops and use those onions first rather than try to store them. or you could let them go to seed

so when it starts to bolt, i need to just cut off that seed pod, do i leave them in the ground to continue, or dig them up? also can i use those seeds

If you want it for seed then it will seed in the second year that's the flower head, correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

Anyway I take the whole stem off, just cut it and when I want an onion for sommat I'll use that one 'wet' leaving those that haven't bolted in to mature as normal so I can dry those ones for winter.
