1st broad beans of the year

My pods are about 3" on some of the plants. They flowered for ever never thought I'd ever get beans just flowers, but nope all 50 odd have lovely little pods on - at last

mine have small beans on them and I only planted this year.... good few weeks before I can shell them though

Mine are only getting planted out this weekend, they are timed to be ready for when we get back from our hols in June. No need to rush them as we still have lots in the freezer.

I only ever plant a single lot of broad beans for an earlyish crop as I want them out the ground as soon as possible, where they'll be replaced by additional courgettes and squashes. Am looking forward to eating them as they'll be the first proper crop off the new lottie.

Last night I checked my November-sown broadbeans and there were some 6" pods! I'm giving them a week till fill out a bit.

Mine are about 3 feet high with loads of flowers and loads of black fly! The beans are about 7ins long and some I planted last Sept/Oct and some early Spring. Have picked some for eating whole. The Sutton have got loads of flowers but many have dropped off without setting.

Someone said it's a good idea to pinch out the growing tips when they are in full flower to reduce the chance of black fly. Seems to be working for me. Also the tips are great to eat in a salad - taste just like fresh peas

I checked mine today and they have shot up this last week.....got 6" pods on some - dead excited!

I've only grown 12 BB plants this year as neither OH or I have ever had them before but they've got pleasing 3'' pods on them (and the enevitable blackfly) and plenty of flowers.

We really want to like them so will be trying them young and tender. To be honest they had a bit of an image problem with me but I decided to give them a go this year as everybody else on the allotment seems to grow row upon row.

Whats the betting I'm going to regret sowing so few

Ate my first bowl of proper podded out beans at the weekend. only small but lovely. My other half who insists he doesn't like them said " well they're not that horrible". I didn't tell him that the pasta and stuff surprise we had a few weeks back had broad-beans-in-their-pods in it. What he doesn't know etc..

Mine have about three inch pods on them too! We FINALLY got some rain over the weekend so I'm hoping it will give them a little boost!

We had BB risotto at the weekend and I'm sure it was the tastiest dish I've had all year! Or maybe I'm just veggie daft! I grew 4 plants in the greenhouse and they are w-a-a-y ahead of the ones outside!
