Planted my fig tree today. I now have quite a bit of left over soil I need to work out what to do with...

Pruned my roses and gooseberries, also potted up some gooseberry cuttings.
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs! https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...lies/smile.gif

Started off just weeding my pots & the patio, removed the old geraniums (I need to sow new seeds soon). Removed the ivy coming over & through our fence from the neighbours border of ivy,it’ll grow back soon There was fluffy cocoon things on it,I don’t know what those are but not beneficial I guess. Pruned some of the buddleia, honeysuckle, goji berry & another spiked shrub I don’t know what it is,I’ll prune more of them all soon that was like a warning to let them know I’m about again

Finally got my hedges cut, well not all of them but the big one's that are used for nesting. I still have some long whispy Pyracantha to take out and some Laurel but they can wait, I'm aching all over and it's about to rain.

Built another pallet bed, somewhat smaller this time, line the sides with plastic, dumped a load of grass and dead leaves in the bottom, then started sieving the soil from the communal "compost" bins (more of a dumping pile, half full of soil) and filling it up. I've done two barrow loads so far. Probably need another four or five more to fill it.

Planted my new sweet cherry tree in the old raised bed in the garden (in hindsight, it was a poor place to grow veg, as it's on the north side of a fence, immediately behind it. The fence isn't very tall, though, so the tree should soon grow above it).

-Sowed my first lot of sweetpeas and covered them over with mesh.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Finished filling my two new raised beds, and transplanted some strawberries into the smaller one.
Spread manure on a couple of the older raised beds.

Put seed sowing compost in the propagator to warm up before I sow the seeds at the weekend.

Sowed 8 types of tomato and two types chillis in the propogator. Also sowed some chitted peas in root trainers in the greenhouse.

Mulched the rhubarb and asparagus, and weeded and then feed the fruit trees and akebia vines at the allotment.

I had a lot of broccoli plants this year & planted three out late Sept/Oct in containers that’d had tomatoes in them,no fresh compost just a bit of BFB. They’ve done alright,if you’re a container grower & your tomato plants are finished,it’s good to have some broccoli plants on standby to fill their place, looks nice having the plants growing & it’s edible at this quiet time of year. If you feed the plants more than the one time they’d probably be bigger plants but you can plant them out & do nothing till February, they were fine with no protection all winter & this was the coldest winter we’ve had here for years. Easy to grow from seed -

Yesterday I potted up a replacement Amaryllis, hopefully this one will be yellow, not red!
Pricked out my Beefsteak Toms and Mirabilis and sowed lots of seeds.
Had a delivery of bagged manure and compost too. It's so expensive this year!

Dug out as many of the blackberry suckers as I could (I dug out the main plant last year, but it just grew back from bits of root).
Started weeding the soft fruit beds. Got about 3/4 of it done (one of the strawberry beds had a stupid amount of couch grass, which took quite a while to get out).

Also, speaking of stuff growing back, I pulled up a goji berry shoot last week. That's two years after I dug the thing out and removed as much root as possible.
Don't plant a goji berry unless you are absolutely certain you'll never want to get rid of it. Because it'll just keep coming back.

Taken on a new plot about a month ago. Moving from a, growls at a friend's farm as that is being sold soon. Plot much smaller and great community so it's worked out really well. Today we were just building a fruit cage for all the front we brought over with us.

It's got raspberries, blueberries, Chilean guava, honeyberry, strawberries, white, red, black currants and rhubarb. We'll also have a pear x2 plum and apple trees.

We've made an area with a chair on for our 7 year old to sit in and eat all the fruit 🤣🤣
