After All That Sowing, Look What's Growing!

Most of my veg have done really well with good germination, tho' my sweetcorn is being a bit tardy, two popped up in no time at all and the rest have decided to stay under the blankets. Last weekend I sowed a different beetroot to previous years, in the GH, and they are coming up like little red jewels, very pretty, but I guess that will go when the leaves appear.
The one thing that has surprised me is coriander, I don't think I've grown this before, if I have I didn't notice, but the seedlings are coming up in pairs from each seed. The seeds were big enough to be sown in tidy rows in the seed tray so it's definitely two sprouts per seed, is this normal, are they compound seeds or something?

Ah - but you are in the frozen north, Sarz! And look how far ahead Jackie is, in balmy Devon with her spuds nearly ready and all!

More to do with the dratted OH forgetting to water them... I'm soooo looking forward to being able to carry a watering can


McHanen, believe me, it doesn't wear off I still get excited by my seeds popping up, still check them for signs of growth far sooner than it's going to happen, and still get madly disappointed when something fails to grow.....

lol i know what you mean mchanen, i nearly wet myself with excitement when my composter arrived!! just trying to persuade the other half to move some shrubs now so i can put it into position
it must be catching though, i looked out of my daughters bedroom window this morning to see a propogator on my next door neighbours garden table.. and trust me, he's not the kind of guy to get an idea all on his own.. copycat!!

Whoop whoop!! My beans have finally started to come up! Oh, the relief... I was beginning to think my favourite veg were going to be a bit lacking this year....

And #2 son's giant cabbage have germinated too Although I think we might be too late to get proper giants, as long as they're bigger than mine he'll be happy

I'm really pleased with my tomato plants this year. I started them off a bit later than usual and as soon as they went into 3" pots I put them in the cold greenhouse. The result is short, stocky healthy looking plants that now are starting to get flower buds on them. My big disppointment this year, I bought some Datura seed and not one has germinated. Win some.. lose some.

complete newbie here, a couple of pics of what i have so far.

questions - my toms, do i need to remove any stems from them? also my zucchini's - should i remove the yellowing leaves?

Your tomatoes are fine, they shouldn't need anything taken off yet. The courgettes, you could take off the most shrivelled leaves if you want to.

My sweetcorn that finally started coming up, has now started going brown and keeling over over I think I might have to start a new thread called 'When it All Goes Wrong...'

Here we go first year so far so good , I think my first pot for potatoes might be a little small but I am waiting to see what has grown , the toms are moneymakers , and trellis will be on the walls by both the runner beans and tomatoes by tomorrow evening.

One week on from the bud forming, I've got a flower and several other buds

I've got flower buds on my chillis and sweet peppers and a few trusses in fruit have already formed on my toms outside. Chillis sown in airing cupboard Jan and toms in conservatory in feb.

Peas are flowering - I must get a photo of the pea support we built at the lottie. It's so cool, made with a few canes and large prunings from elderberry tree.

First early spuds are starting to flower, but can't remember when I put them in their bags!

lettuce is all doing well, but at lottie the flea beatle ruins all but the lollo rossa. Will keep the salad in the garden I think as it doesn't seem to bother us at home.

Broad beans are doing really well too. I sowed these into an old plastic storage box lined with a bin bag.

Just starting to harvest my autumn planted onions, but didn't realise that these don't store like the spring planted ones. Hope the family likes onion marmalade!
