    • Admired my overwintering broad beans: I sowed them 3 weeks ago and they are just popping their heads up now! Such an amazing plant able to thrive in the chilly late autumn!

      • Cut down all the growth from Jerusalem Artichokes and then attempted to lift them all.

Got a huge bucketful which will be given to the chef where I work for him to turn into soup.

Really need to clear the area of all traces of artichoke as I dont particularly want to grow it.

Obviously not done a brill job in past few years cos the b ugger keeps on growing!!

            • Picked up my pal then collected 5 sacks of donkey muck from a friends place, and took them down the lottie.
Had a mug of tea and a chockie biccie each.

Spread some old hos muck round me PBB and then a few bags of spent hops to top em off.
Had a mug of tea and a chockie biccie each.

Picked some savoys each, plus the last of the carrots (before it snows) and some sweeds. Also picked some Romanseco shoots.

Barrowed our share of a load of mushroom compost from the society shed, then went home frozen to death. Needed a stiff scotch to get me warmed up.

              • Went to lottie.
Tried to get a fire going failed miserably, helped one of my neighbours move a oil drum for use as an incinerator. Carried on levelling for GH. Cleared yellow psb leaves. Dug up a parsnip ('nother biggie) and pulled a cabbage for tea. Went home to recover from frostbitten fingers (gwd help me when it gets really cold) glass of red's helping nicely

                • Made a big pan of winter vegetable soup (all home-grown produce), a loaf of bread and six cheese scones. Not bad for a bloke

Everything outside is waterlogged but, as in previous years I've grown a lot of stuff in containers so I don't have to tread in the quagmire to pick the day's veg. Had to cover the cabbages with netting as the birdies seem to have taken a fancy to them now there's not much else for them to nibble on.

                    • Don't think I will get much done today as it was -3 last night and the ground is frozen. Have to make a wooden base for a recycled greenhouse that I recently aquired so will get on with that to start with. Still at Least I haven't had any snow yet.

                        - squished green and whitefly that are covering every plant indoors
                        - picked the last chilli (red, in the gh!) and made a v.short ristra
                        - sowed a tray of wheat/oats/barley on a windowsill to provide guinea pigs with grass at Xmas
                        - cemented another 2' section of the greenhouse foundation
                        - fed the birds every hour or so with soaked sultanas
                        - wiped condensation & black mould from all the windowsills again

                          • Trudged to the supermarket through the snow to get food for our two cats.
OH forgot to get it so I decided to go before the weather got any worse.
Totally bogged down here with a good few inches of snow.
As we live quite close to the coast we don't usually get much snow and its set to get worse.
