Onions transplanted into Cell Trays
I have transplanted my onions from a big seed tray into individual cells and then will transplant them into 3 inch pots when they are bigger. Could you tell me if I am doing them right?

They look a bit white (rather than green), might just be the photo though?Originally posted by MarkHackwell View PostCould you tell me if I am doing them right?
If white then perhaps they need more light?K's Garden blog the story of the creation of our garden

I'm not looking to show any onions, just growing for eating.
I have some onion seedlings that are just growing their 2nd leaf on the windowsill (in cells) that I want to grow as an 'early crop' in my unheated greenhouse.
How tender are these seedlings? Can I put them in the greenhouse yet? I could do with the windowsill space!
I also have trays of thinly sown seeds on the windowsill that are just starting to appear from the surface, these will eventually go into rows on the plot. Do these need to go via the greenhouse, or can they go straight into the ground once grown a little?
Thanks for the advice!

Hi all, I'm wondering if there are any onion experts online tonight; growing from seed is new to me!Originally posted by Bohobumble View PostI'm not looking to show any onions, just growing for eating.

your onions will need a minimum temperature of 55f to grow on. Ground temperature will be nothing like that yet so you will need to keep them inside.Originally posted by Bohobumble View PostI'm not looking to show any onions, just growing for eating.

They're sprouting in a seed tray in a blowaway inside my greenhouse tonight, I asked one of the old boys at the allotment whose been on the site at least 30 years and he says he's started his off in his cold greenhouse and they're happy enough.Originally posted by Aberdeenplotter View Postyour onions will need a minimum temperature of 55f to grow on. You have me slightly worried I'm gonna have cold damaged seedlings in the morning now!
