I should explain the ....Hate of that time of yr.
It never used to be . That time at parents was always fun and relaxed, lovely food. Family about, just relaxed.
I met OH who's mother took over and insisted we spend the day there, every yr as he is an only child.
I've rarely had a C day with mine, with dad alz/dementia past 8+ yrs we've had day with mine on C/eve . This yr I don't know.
This yr fil is no longer here for first time, sad time for OH.
We both have birthdays either side of C Mas.
it's not that a party pooper just its a rough time . You can discuss it on 24/12Northern England.

CG, it's a difficult time for many people, friends of mine hate it, their daughter was killed by a drunk driver on Xmas Eve. I can't imagine how they feel each year.
However, thankfully, for me it's not a bad time and so I really enjoy it. I do appreciate though that it's not the same for everyone xx

well I should probably clarify...
My family doesn't actually celebrate the c word, we celebrate the winter solstice which is a few days before. We feast on food that we have grown, hunted and gathered.
Our decorations come mainly from the woods (although the children make some from paper as well) and gifts tend to be hand made either by ourselves or by craftspeople throughout the year. It is important to us that presents are small and bespoke and meaningful.
Its easier to refer to the preparations as being for the c word rather than go into a long explanation of our belief system, the whole point of which is that we think of and plan for each other the whole year through and come together to celebrate the fact on the solstice.

I'm not even going to think about it until December.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

December is so much more appropriate ...!!!!!!!~~~ Gardening is medicine that does not need

I'm still trying to figure out how I am going to grow a tin of beans and exactly how hard is it to make good strong cheddar for grating on top?
I don't like the 'event' but I do enjoy the company on here as the hyperactive happy ones cheer up the miserable and the enthusiastic sometimes rub off on the 'humbugs'. Either way on here no one need be alone or sad over those 3 days.
