I may have told this before.

I took our learning disability foster lad (34) night fishing to Berry head near Brixham one night. Its a lonely deserted place. While we sat there i asked him "What would you do John, if I had a heart attack. "Phone an ambulance he said" "Well done John but have you got your phone?" "No i would use yours" Well done again.
"And what would you say to the ambulance people?" "Erm Bills dying" "Ok but what if they ask where we are? "Torquay" he said. "Well thats a bit vague John, they woulod be searching for months on that information, can you remember the name of this spot? Iv'e told you a hundred times" "Erm no" he replied.
"Ok so maybe they will ask you to describe the area, coud you tell them what you can see around you ?"

(We are on the edge of a huge quarry and 100 feet above us is a Napolionic fort and a light house.)

"Try describing what you can see John" He took a long time looking all around, then said "A star"
"Oh dear, John, you would be talking to the ambulance men, not the bloody three wise men."

So my other fishing secret is take your own de-fibrilator.

Does anyone know how to change the top eye on a beach caster ?
It's only my second rod so it doesn't get used all the time. But I would like to fix it, because it used to be my Grandad's
It's a D-A-M blue surf deluxe 12FT if that's any help.

Is it "whipped" on or the more modern glued socket type SP ?

I tried whipping an eye on one of mine but it never really settled properly so i took it to a local tackle shop where he put one on for me for about 8 quid.
He tried the old " but you can have one of these for twenty quid mate " , i was in the same boat as you tho, wanted it repaired for sentimental reasons, i still use it on the rare occasions i brave the winter for some whiting fishing ( yum yum )

It's a glued socket.
I've just watched a couple of u tube videos. It looks simple enough. But I don't believe them nothing ever simple ( special when you think it's going to be )

With a permanant marker draw a line on the rod tip inline with the centre of the ring, roughly snip the ring from the ferrule (removes possible danger from splintering ceramic &/or melting plastic), with a blowlamp set to a gentle flame warm the ferrule until you see bubbles/smoke comimg out the end, twist & pull the ferrule from the rod, while the glue is still warm scrape as much as possible off the rod tip with a knife blade (pulling towards the tip), roughen the previously glued area with emery cloth (or similar), check the fit of the new tip ring socket on the rod (more sanding may be needed), mix araldite (or similar adhesive) smear on rod tip, twist & slide new ferrile onto rod tip, align ring with marker line.
When the glue has set trim off any excess with a sharp knife & remove marker line with WD40 (or similar) ....... Go & catch some fish

I use super glue to fix mine on, always carry some and a few spare tip rings, in the winter the tripod sometimes gets blown over in the gales and the rings always seem to get chipped when they hit the rocks. I use braided line and this cuts easily if the tip ring is damaged.

I have fished over a fair bit of the uk and Ireland for coarse fish, fly fished also and sea fished all over the Mediterranean area. Now mostly sea fishing and flyfishing for trout and salmon.
I used to be a member of a couple of specimen groups way back and spent a few years after big tench, pike, barbel and carp. I do miss coarse fishing, but north east Scotland has very little. I mostly return my fish alive, including Cod, which baffles the locals.
