Had them fitted but not used indoors, but I do remember lighting them in caravans. Just looked at some old pictures and had to laugh at the wooden pelmets above the windows

Having to tolerate the humiliation of sub standard push chairs made from recycled gas masks.
Me and my sister at Weston super Mare in about 1950. I notice the end of my spade has even fallen off.Attached Filesphoto album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html

We had electric lights but only one power socket in the house!! It had lots of adaptors on but you had to choose what to have running - so if you had the one bar electric fire you couldn't have the wireless,
My Mum used to plug her iron into the light socket too - then she could listen to the wireless while she ironed - during the day, of course, because we needed the light on at night!

How did we cope? most would say very well including me. I really cant remember really going without as a child and nothing was wasted. We never had all these gadets that people do now days but we had imagination. Girls in the playground with a ball in a stocking tied around one leg to skip, boys with their marbles, hopscotch and alike.

I am glad you can find a little mirth regarding my dire situation. The spade calamity was why I later went onto a no dig policy.Originally posted by veggiechicken View PostThat's made me cry, Bill - with laughter. Hope you have a new spade now

Oh that brought back memories! It was always caravan holidays when I was a kid, the smell of those lights has just come flooding back. Funny what you can remember.Originally posted by Nicos View Post
I remember my parent's caravan had gas lights with cloth mantles...and the smell of the camping gas.
