Same sex marriage........why not?

We live in the 21st century and adapt to all sorts of changes in life. What's the problem with same sex marriages. I heard a small part of a debate ont wireless earlier.......

It seems that some people are very stuck in their ways..........

from what I've seen, they fall apart as regularly as not-same-sex marriages so I cant see a reason not to have them being as it keeps the lawyers employed and we're all about keeping jobs these days

I'm not against same sex marriage per se, which is what they can already have, in all but name, by registering a civil relationship.
What I don't think is right is if clergy would have to perform ceremonies in church that are against their beliefs -which is what this debate already seems to be leading towards.

That must have been Jeremy Vine on Radio 2, I guess. I listened long enough to find out what today's subjects were, then hit the button - there are far better things to listen to on the radio than people arguing. In my humble opinion!

I know for a fact there are people with same-sex partners on his Forum, they're still human, just different to me. Each to their own - Live and let live, I say.

As far as I'm concerned, any two (or more) adults who consent to live and be together in a loving relationship, sharing every aspect of their lives, can be considered to be married, even if law or religion deny them.

Im trying to answer this without sounding wrong or offensive (my wordings sometimes arent very good), i lived for a couple of years a with a gay guy and his partner and i couldnt think of a more perfect couple to get married.

Society are/will coming/come around to the 'idea' (that's not the right word i know - i have brain fog) but there will always be people who aren't so forthcoming for whatever reason. Take for example, racism, its only in recent times (maybe the last 50 years) that such behaviours will not be tolerated.

As someone who used to live in South Africe in the times of Apartheid (granted i was very young and i dont remember much about it, but my mum has horrendous memories of how people were treated just because of the colour of their skin and also of how as a 'white' person you had to adhere to such ways otherwise you would be segregated (as we were) - mum said that we had a maid that she paid her more than the going rate (which was ridiculously low) and a few of the other women on the estate came around to the house, saying how she made the look tight and cheap and how she was a - well i think you can guess the names she was called.

Such things do still happen, but i think in SA due to the break down of the apartheid and thanks to people both in politics and in society, who are as like minded as mandela, such behaviour isnt tolerated by both black and white and - any other colour you want to add into the mix .

But anyway, that was totally off topic, I think what im trying to say is eventually like the above society will come round to this as a way of norm and if you have an opinion on the matter as same sex marriage then, if you feel the need to express your opinion, do it in the right way without causing hurt or offense, then that's fine.

We cant expect everyone to adhere to the same ways of life, but we can hope that we live in a society where we all feel equal and not discriminated against because of our personal circumstance.

I believe that any two people, who love and respect each other, should be able to share their lives together without discrimination in any way and that includes all the "prejudices" which we recognise exist but, in a civilised world, should not.....

I'm pretty sure the only realistic option the law and religion have is to 'get with the program'. Any gainsayers are on thin ice, both legally and theologically and it's going to happen whether they like it or not

and my last throw of the dice....religion and the law/laws have no place together. If you want to believe in something, then believe in it, but if you want to do something legally, then do it.

Laws aren't based on religion, they're based on common sense [for the most part, not the legal stuff, the law stuff], and religion has no place in the law.

I see what you're saying but I think it is kind of my business, if people could even in a tiny way benefit from my support and encouragement. Poverty and racism aren't 'my business' as such either...

No it isn't. I'm each to their own. Worthy of debate I thought. I just thought it is sad that a modern society cannot accept what seems to be a normal progression of society.
