We have had black and gold the last 2 years, not sure what this year will be - depends which box of deccies gets grabbed first. There are some decs that go on every year regardless of colour theme - ones bought from various trips etc. Our lights are gold, frosted white and clear white. Possibly black/gold/red this year with lametta and tinsel and all sorts of sparkly stuff (which Madmax hates).

We went and bought our tree on Sunday and are going to collect it weekend after next when the chap is digging it up for us

The thought of a colour scheme makes me shudder as it would mean that I had to throw away all the beautiful old and mismatched baubles I have collected over the years. My mum gave me some from my childhood when I left home and at least two of them are from her childhood so probably about 70. I love unwrapping them and remembering long gone events when my grandparents and dad were alive and the thought of throwing that all in for new shiny ones just wouldn't be right. Mind you the thought of having a tree up yet also doesn't seem right to me, we always put it up the first day off school as kids and nowadays I prefer to give the house a good clean through and then decorate the weekend before Christmas.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Think tacky colour scheme. Every colour of baubles and tinsel. Flashing window lights and a fibre optic tree - Mr and Mrs Frosty are classy

We have a small fibre-optic tree, we put lights on the trees nearby outside the house, and a very few ornaments which go wherever we can find a place to hang them.
          Colour-scheme? No way!
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

I like effect of plum (sounds nicer than purple ) and gold together. Although I may have done that last time.

To be honest, I'll look in the box and decide there and then what I fancy. I might go for a 3-colour theme this year

Oh, and as others have said, I don't do tinsel and I prefer white fairy lights.

In the past I have sometimes opted out of the xmas tree centre piece and have made a grotto. Using upturned chairs covered with white fleece. Introducing mirrors as lakes and penquins on skis etc. Miniature faux pine trees with fairy lights. That sort of thing..........

Loads of odds ansd sods here - baubles the kids were given when they were young, one from the tree my parents had the year I was born, stuff the children made at school. No theme - just a glorious riot of Christmassy gorgeousness!

Mine is green, a little red and some silver - natural decorations that I cut from the garden, this year I also have some fircones, some of it I spray a hint of silver on. The tree is plastic and has what-ever-is-in-the-loft colour scheme

OH decided to put up all the ones he brought from his house, PINK and PURPLE yuk, had to have them for a few years so last year we bought some new decs for the tree. I try to persuade him to buy a fresh tree, not sure if I will be able to get one this year.
I still have at least one small paper chinese lantern that was on the tree when we were little, that stay's safely in the box cos I dont want it to get ruined.

dont have room ofr a proper tree but i'm considering getting mini stuff from paperchase. would have it mhadras colours though (orange, blue, green, purple) as i find it 'warmer' than gold/silver/red stuff

I'm fairly 'trad' when it comes to my Christmas decorations. I haven't done a numbered list for a while so here goes...

                              1) Has to be white lights - there is no negotiation on this!
                              2) Silver tinsel only - there is no negotiation on this!
                              3) Baubles in a range of colours, silver, red, green, gold, and dark (Cadburys ) purple.
                              4) Little wooden country angels in cream and gold
                              5) Little yellow teddy bears (bought from Ikea for a 1 each years ago)
                              6) Little white Fairy teddy bear for the top of the tree.
                              7) Real foliage from the garden - mostly ivy, tree ivy and holly.

I'm getting very excited about dragging the boxes down from the attic

Love this! and will definitly put piccie on when the tree goes up which wont be until the week before christmas.( might have a look through files see if I have one from last year).
The tree is my province and everyone knows they can't go near it! When the kids were little they used to 'help' and it was only a couple of years ago they cottoned on that I used to rearrange when they had gone to bed (sorry ,it has to be right!)
This year it's going to be real tree,white/silver/green. White lights only,no tinsel, lots of greenery round the house with fairy lights and candles everywhere. We have a few things that come out every year-a musical nutcracker doll and a few decs that have been around a while that we love.
Pics everyone- I love to see what people do.
                                Gardening forever- housework whenever
