Working age (16 - 65) = 62% of pop. = 38,311,040
Long-term unemployed = 772,000. Less than 2% of the working age population.

These 'scroungers' who are supposedly 'content' to live on JSA are not taking over the country! They, assuming they exist at all, are a tiny minority who may well be a burden on society even if their benefits were cut, through drug abuse, thefts etc etc. The people that these policies will hurt the most are the ones that play by the book, and do not deserve to be penalised.

Frankly, I'm shocked by some of the attitudes being expressed, it seems that the right-wing media are doing a great job of having us all turn on each other

when you have a vacancy you have to open it up, advertise, look at applicants, interview and then appoint.

The law requires that vacancies are advertised: even if they have already been filled internally (I've seen this happen so many times, it's such a waste of time, money & applicants' hope)

The jobs the Tories are intending to give the unfortunate people who are are on the dole are non jobs............i.e. you don't get paid anywhere near the minimum lawful wage in this country for them!(You only get paid �1 per hour for them which is really slave labour!)

To be a slave you have no choice, there are several in this instance

or toss it off and lose the lot

Option 2 is usually working in a charity shop sorting out or washing old clothes.
If it wasn't for people on JSA some charity shops would close.
PS we have 14 charity shops in Loughborough so plenty for the unemployed to go at.

Nowt the matter with charity shops! When I was a kid I used to stand outside rather than go in a charity shop with my Mother whilst shopping. NOW..........they are the first place I visit, looking for cheap books to sell on fleebay. I don't visit Oxfam though cos they employ a proffesional book pricing guy (probably on good money) who makes sure there aren't many bargains to be had!

More or less it is only for the over 60s who have paid in 31 years or more "national Insurance" payments & who are long term unemployed.(don't know for how long)
I was on �48 JSA & went on to �108 pension credits(paid weekly)
The best point is you don't have to sign on, so no more trips to the joke shop.

Sorry to go off topic & harken back to this BW but about these pension credits, does this mean that when you hit penshionable age you will get less pension because of the credits you've had?
