Trick or Treat?

We have a good ole stash of sweeties waiting for kiddies and also take Daisy & Ash out.
I totally sympathise with those of you that get the yobs come knocking...seeing the date as an excuse for anti social behaviour.Thankfully around here,everyone seems sensible about it.We only knock on doors where there's either a pumpkin or decorations.
I think although the origins may not be to everyones fancy,commercialism has done a rather grand job of switching it to a kiddie orientated reason to dress up & have a little fun.(& grown ups!)
We usually combine it with a pumpkin fest...take the kiddies trick or treating & then get home for a feast with friends of all things pumpkin,this year however we're going to another friends,Daisy & Ash are so excited at the prospect of two lots of trick or treating.

It is a horrid American import. We are forced to batten down and close the curtains and make like we are out.

Fun it is not, its crass, terrifies our elderly neighbours and has very sinister undertones.

Couldn't have put it better myself, fortunately we're going out.

I've thought about making buns with laxative in them so the little monster's don't come back another year , there a pain in the bum at the best of times, so why should I have to put up with them when they want something, when it comes to penny for the guy, you get a Morrison's carrier bag filled with news paper attached to an old pair of jeans, if you give them a penny they tell you to fluff off round here......Bar humbug.
I wouldn't really put laxative in the buns, but some kids make me want to.
I only carved a pumpkin because my friends little girl wanted to do one....but I enjoyed carving it with her
P.S, I have to make a halloween cake tomorrow for a party we've been invited to.... that should be fun.

My angelic lil girlie came up with the idea of semi incubated eggs for the trick!....must just add that they have both had it drummed into them that regardless of whether or not they get the treat...under no circumstances do they get to play the trick!

When I was a kid in Canada; it was the highlight of my year [no, really ]. It was brilliant to dress up and go round our little block and we maybe visited about 10 houses at most. But over here it just never worked for me. Completely different 'vibe'.

Shame, but there you go.

we've got a bbq & bonfire at lottie which is usually really good and s loads to eat and drink by the time i walk (stagger) home they'll all have gone home

Don't know what it is like here as it's our first year. There is only one child here - well a boy of 10, quite a nice boy (which is something as I am childless and consider a lot of children to be ill-mannered little bugg*rs) Why do little (or not so little) girls think it's okay to let out that high pitch screech? If I had done that when my mum was alive my b*m would have been red raw Getting back on track I wasn't allowed to go trick or treating, to quote my mum "you're not a beggar"! I have never entertained trick or treaters, when my friend's children were younger I made up goodie bags which were handed into their homes. In the Borders, the police have asked shops not to sell flour and eggs to children. The wee blighters have been terrorising and vandalising people's homes and cars with the eggs and flour.

I've never let my children go out trick or treating because I don't like the idea of youngsters visiting strangers' houses in the dark, and because I think it's a form of begging. Nor do I like opening the door to strangers at night, especially when OH is out.

My children do enjoy dressing up in scary costumes etc so we will carve our pumpkin and have a mini Halloween party with pizza and our own treats, keeping the door firmly locked to the outside world.

Those of you saying that it was 'okay' to do Penny for the Guy, because you spent ages making it, but the money went in your pocket?! Sorry, but, how is that any 'better' than Trick or Treat? Rose tinted spectacles being applied to the past there, methinks...

My kids get dressed up and go round the local streets, me following with the dog, although #1 son didn't bother last year and stayed home to give out the treats. I don't let them knock anywhere that has no pumpkin or decorations, but these are getting fewer every year. Soon it will fizzle out for the kids and all people will get is the annoying teenagers then. Shame.

My Little one (little C) who is 8 loves it now he is big enough to go out(with adult) There are lots of houses in the surrounding streets who participate, some with pumpkins and some with full on decorated houses

We have regular kids every year and they know which houses do and don't do this event and I will be the one left at home to dish out the treats

Now better get on with the pumpkin
