Why do you live where you do

I live in Devon and was born just 6 miles from where I live now, and have always lived. the first 19 yrs in the town I was born, marriage and I moved to the town I now live all of 6 miles, stayed for 2 years, moved back to home town for 12 years, moved back to the house I live in now ( 21 yrs ago ).
Why do you live where you do and what made you choose. If you have moved away from home town would you want to go back to live if you could.

I live here because we moved to Yorkshire from Sunderland when I was 15 with my Dad's job. Since then, I haven't lived further than 5 miles from the village we moved to then, and we now live 2 minutes from that original house. Mostly because I didn't go to Uni like my sisters I think - they're all scattered all over now. I stay here because I can't afford to go anywhere else (Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful here)
If I could, I'd move either further up the Dale, or, I'd happily have a smallholding in West Wales.

Originally from Glasgow but have not lived there in years, now living in Fort William (but have lived in Ireland, Canada and Ayrshire since leaving Glasgow). Why did we choose FW - cause we can see Ben Nevis from our living room We would never live in Glasgow again (although we were seriously thinking about it). It would make more sense living in Glasgow - closer to the Southern General for when hubby's shunt fails ( we will have a 100+ miles dash with blue lights when the shunt fails - should be fun on Loch Lomondside). But it's about the quality of your life - we have cleaner air and it is soooo quiet where we live.

Moved to the area with work about 17 years ago and rented for a few years. Bought a house where I live now about 13 years ago as it was the part of the area that appealed, it's handy for a lot of work places and I can get to towns / countryside easily. Suits both me and OH who moved from up in the hills when we got together. Unlikely to move again really, am happy with my lot but could probably have been just as happy in other places. Would never move abroad permantly as all my life is here and I'd miss the country and my friends / family too much.

I was born in a small village just on the outskirts of Barnsley, I bought a small Terrace house there when I was 19, I moved into the Town center at 29, where I bought another Terrace, I've lived here ever since 27 years. In less than 5 minutes in any direction I can be in some of the nicest countryside you've ever seen, I have friends all over the country and I love to visit, but I'm like Dorothy Of "The Wizard Of Oz" "There's No place like home". And I love it here.

We moved here because of my husband's job in 1985, in 1990 moved away because of husband's job, 1995 moved back again (yes you've guessed why!)

I am originally from Gloucestershire ( well we moved there in 1964 because of my Dad's job....) but would hate to leave the sea now

We lived in the village where I was born (OH is a 'foreigner' from the next village over the hill, so ours was a mixed marriage). We stayed in 'my' village until I wanted to go to university. By then we had a largish family (and none of the tax credits available now) so we had to think carefully about our finances if I wanted to study. We moved to the city, bought a large (cheap) doer upper and lived there until my course finished, when the plan was to sell up and go 'home'. It never happened, we had made lots of good friends here, our children were in good schools and we had our first lottie. When the kids left home we were going to go back to the village, but in the end we just bought a smaller house two streets away from the old one. Mum, still in the original village (in fact still in her original house) is getting on a bit now and about once a week I say it's getting time to move back to be near her. The problem is all my kids are living in various parts of the city now, and where we are is fairly central to all of them, and as our collection of grandchildren keeps growing I'd hate to be too far away from them. Mum is only 15 miles away, so I think we're staying put. And as Ginger Ninger says, the countryside is stunning and ten minutes away and when we lived in the middle of it we just didn't appreciate it.

I was born in Colchester, and we moved to the 'sticks' when I was about 5, and I've lived in this area all my life. I think the furthest away I've lived was about 7 miles from here.

Seriously, I do think I could live anywhere, providing I could speak the lingo. Whenever we go visiting anywhere, N or S Wales/Suffolk/Lincolnshire/Norfolk/Derbyshire/Cambridgeshire/West Country, I always say I could happily stay there (in the countryside, I couldn't live in a built-up area).

However, I know I'm strange, but there's something about knowing every twist and bump in every lane, every house, every tree in the area - it's home! (OK I'm a saddo ) If I won the Lottery, I think I'd still stay in the same area, but I'd buy loads of land!

Born & bred where I live now apart from moving up & down to the next town & back. Why do we live here, because we can't afford to move to anywhere decent, I'd love to live in a small detached house/cottage in the countryside or near the seaside but that's just a pipe dream!

I have moved away several times, lived abroad, in Wales and in several different parts of the country, but somehow I always move back to the fens. Is it because it is flat and easier to walk about, or is it now because my family are still all here (I am pretty much the only one who's ever gone anywhere!) and there is babysitting on tap!?

Moved to this (smaller) house last year as we had no garden to speak of before. Now I have a mahoosive garden and we are on the second extension to get the same size house as before!

Then I will be guaranteed to get itchy feet again..... I get a bit bored when nothing left to do!

I live here because this is my BF's house, I moved in with him, and wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world.

Next to him that is, not this area as it's a dogs a***h*** of a place.

my grandad was from fortwilliam then ended up in glasgow

well i moved here to be with my ex ... and now have nowhere else to go, grew up in preston, travelled a lot after i left home, moved here 12 years ago, and dont think theres any point moving back, most people i knew will have moved on now .... although i would happily move abroad if i could afford to.
