though i agree with some of TEB's comments you must remember that welsh born players have regularly represented the english cricket team (robert croft simon jones) most recently and as the opportunity to bid for and stage was a cash and not political process of choice. i dont understand the need for the national anthem though either and as a valley's born lad i do like to here it occasionally
any way it was 97 for 3 when i last looked

Its being played at Cardiff because Glamorgan tendered for one of the test matches and with funding from the Welsh National Assembly they managed to put supposedly around �3 million on the table and so won the right to host a test match...

I'd not be convinced that any of the English CC are without some sort of 'political' aspirations then. I see no problem with the WNA spending their money as they see fit - isn't that what 'self-rule' is about? Don't English Counties receive any funding from Govt.?

...so you had the Welsh Goverment using British taxpayers funded money (not 100% on whether its from the taxpayers or Europe) in a game between Australia and ENGLAND (not Wales)...

But of course it is a game between Autralia and England & Wales.

...but because it is being played in Wales there is a fear that the Welsh supporters would get behind the Australians and hence KJ singing WNA, as if singing the Welsh National Anthem would influence the way a supporter would declare their favours and why are they only doing it as this event and not the other 4.

...As you say it is a big fuss but I bet they don't play the West Indies National Anthem if there was a match between Sri Lanka and India being played in the windies

Some really good players too and look at the contribution Simon Jones made in the 2005 ashes, but this is the Ashes and obviously before the ECB

Then why are they singing both the Welsh and British National Anthem, is it because they are playing in Wales or is it because the team "could have" players from both countries playing in the team (even though there isnt). I think the part of the problem may lie in the fact that England doesnt have a national anthem. Mind you with the current PC brigade it would probably get sung in a 150 different languages to satisfy alll possible ethnic cultures and you would have to start the cup final about three days before kick off.

To leave the politics out of it (I am siding with TEB, but again no anti Welsh sentiments, my mother is Welsh) quite an interesting day yesterday.
Pietersen??? What was he doing?? Ridiculous shot to get out to. Didnt really understand putting Anderson in either, with 4 overs to go. England were still on the front foot with Prior playing well, they should have kept the momentum going, not gone into defensive mode, and it cost them.
I think England need at least 400 first innings to be in with a chance, and not sure that total is reachable now.
