grand National tips

I guess it's too late to ask but anybody got a hot tip for the national?

Being the last of the big spenders our one day of betting is the grand national. We all have �3 to spend (50p each way) and my son has nicked all the names I liked.

My horse came in 3rd last year (can't remember the name) and son's and OH's all fell over or got rid of the burden of a jockey!

I know it's cheating asking for advice but I'd like to beat them again this year!

I used to "donate" money to "sick" animals I did not realise it when I was in the bookies though.

my tip is to not bet on the national, perpetuating a cruel sport which every year they try to cover up how many horses die in this meeting. if you want to throw money away - give it to a charity.

I love the Grand National.

I used to live in Lambourn (loads of trainers there) and have always put on a bet (or two). I got engaged on Grand National day and No.2 son came home from hospital (after being born) on Grand National day - today is his birthday.

Mr T once won �600 on a Grand National full day bet. (�1 stake)

Today we each have a horse,
Mr T - Parsons Legacy
Me - Silver Birch
No.1 son - Musica Bella
No.2 son - Fleet Street
Small daughter - My Will

Fingers crossed all round.

They don't show the race on normal French television, and No.2 son has a rugby tournament today anyway - so we won't be able to watch it.

Just so I don't jinx it for anyone, I'm not going to bet. If I back a horse it runs backwards. Personally, I no longer watch it, I used to, but have seen too many disasters. I'll stick to flat racing.

That said, I hope someone clears out the bookies!

Mmm - sorry didn't think of the consequences, having a flutter on the national is something both OH & I did with our parents and just carried it on.

but I'll be more responsible next year - I now know a number of horses can be fatally injured during the few days or so the race meeting is held.

Horses can be fatally injured having a nice trot over the Downs, by putting it's foot down a rabbit hole There is risk involved with all activities, it's down to personal choice whether you believe the risk to be acceptable or not. We could also warn about the risks of gambling full stop....! But I'm happy that you are all able to make your own choices

I agree but not much chance of it being banned there is too much ����s involved(the bookies wouldn't like that.

Oh, I watched a thing on telly about that experiment Geo, with Adam Hart-Davis I think, where they replicated the photography. Wasn't it to prove that horses do have all four feet off the ground at once? Cool
