  • Very overcast here today - such a difference from yesterday when it was lovely & sunny! Will need to bring toms & cucs indoors tonight I think as it's going to be chilly overnight according to the forecast.

I've never used a self-serve checkout Jay - I can just about wrap my head around tapping my card on the dewberry to make a payment so I'm sure I'd only end up needing to call for help & be quicker at the normal checkout

I know where you put that permit GF - you put it somewhere safe

Sending positive thoughts to CG, Snoop & Mr Snoop (my OH has arthritis too) for pain relief & to Mr Flo for a speedy recovery x

Well done on the windows Flo - that's the only trouble with the sunshine isn't it, it shows up the dirty bits! I noticed a gathering of dust on the top of the voiles this morning so must be getting those in the washer ASAP

    • Afternoon, was just about to write morning, where has the day gone?
CG, Snoop and Mr. Snoop, hope all your aches and pains are better today! GF, did you find your permit?
Sun is shining but there’s a brisk cold wind blowing.
Have a great day everyone. x

      • Good afternoon.

Well I went to the recycling centre this morning, it's less than a mile away. I parked and went to reception to enquire how to get a new permit. The young man started to tell me that I needed to email ... blah, blah ... and then they'd send it out through the post.... he probably watched my eyes glaze over as I was thinking why do they have to complicate and delay things. Suddenly he said, "Have you got a utility bill with you?" I did. He disappeared and 3 or 4 minutes later I had a permit! So much simpler and they didn't even have to pay postage. What a wonderful young man.

There are two "Powergrid" vans at the entrance to our cul de sac now and they seem to be digging! I hope they don't manage to cut us off.

I called at Aldi on the way back from the "dumpit" a.k.a. recycling facility. I now have a fully stocked fridge again.

The workmen have just knocked on the door to say they've got to turn the power off for " a couple of hours"!

As the mobile signal is useless indoors here (I usually connect my phone to the wi-fi for phone calls, texts and internet indoors) I may just go sit outside in the car, which is warm from the Sun and use some of the inclusive mobile data that I rarely use.

        It's off now!

Well, wi-fi now dead. Although my phone is showing no mobile signal, it does have a 4G+ icon and I still seem to have internet. I also have a couple of small powerbanks.

        • Afternoon all.

Goodness, GF, that's a bit short notice on the power! Suppose you were in the middle of baking, or drying your hair, or had the washing machine going. Surely they should give an advance notice of at least half a day. Did they perchance have to repair a cable they cut?

          • mothhawk, I don't know what the problem was, but we got 10 minutes warning. It was only off for about an hour in the end. I must remember to reset the clock on the cooker. It is the only one that is connected to mains electricity but not the Internet. I can only presume that it was major and unexpected as there were 3 vans in the end and a proper excavator.

Although the weather is very pleasant to look at today and not too cold really ........ the breeze ......... verging on a gale, is absolutely biting. We're forecast to drop down to 2 or 3°C again tonight. Jack Frost is still trying to keep a grip.🥶🥶

I'm going to make some mayonnaise now for my salad.

I've just remembered that after the last time we had a power cut I went to the pound shop and bought a couple of long necked lighters that I can light a ring or oven on the cooker with. It's alright having a gas cooker but in a power cut you also need either matches or a lighter.

            • Evening All. Very cold wind here too GF. I too have a wand - used mainly for tea lights, but handy for the gas hob as you say.

Hope OH is feeling a bit better .

It was really nice sat out earlier (out of that wind) .

What a faff with the permit though gf, only vans need a permit here.
Think I shall be in bed early tonight , earlier than my usual early that is. Didn't do anything today, back twinging still.

                • Good evening all, A sunny day with a biting wind here as well.

                  CG, your hair looks lovely.

GF, very unusual not to be given some notice, it must have been an emergency.

Good to have a wand, always useful.

Had my grandson after after school this afternoon, so, busy entertaining him.
Didn't have any time in the garden but I have a free day tomorrow.

                  • Good evening sitting here at the table unable to move the pain across the small of my back is excruciating, had to take a couple of pain killers and of course OH has been telling me for weeks to take something for the pain, I will give you one guess who is now getting lecture I think its now beginning to ease a bit, but the lecturing isn't, having read so.e of the previous posts I would suggest that for marking poly bags going into the freezer thatyou try a paint pen, Bren put me on to them to or three years ago for lablling plants as its far better than permanent markers, rifht bacm easing a bit so time I moved if for nithing else it might stop the lecturing, don't know if the young folk realise you dont have to be going to collage or university to be getting a lecture enjoy the remainder of the evening and keeppassing on your smiles

                      • Morning all

                        Thanks Bramble.
Rary hope your back has eased.

Slept a little better, more stretching to do today though for the back. I've a CT today and need to be able to get back off it
Not sure what I will do this morning, maybe some potting on... or just take it easy.
It's much lighter and I can see the clouds whizzing by, must be that cool breeze then.

                        • Morning all.

Clear and bright again, and supposed to be sunny all day, so you'll find me in the garden later after I've rubbed down some skirting boards ready for painting. I hate all the tedious prep but love the actual decorating. Walls first, then woodwork.

I tried making a cauliflower rice based pizza yesterday. It wasn't too bad hot, but cold the overpowering flavour was overboiled cauli. Yuk. I like my cauli just blanched, it barely has time to wet its feet before it's hauled out of the pan. Even better is roasted. So I won't be trying that again.

Hope Doctor Sunshine helps everyone that is ailing to feel a little better today.

Hope you're feeling a bit better today, Rary. Hope all goes well today, CG.

Hazy skies today. Supposedly a thunderstorm later but next to no rain with it. Shame. Must do some watering today at the neighbours and here. A bit of a downpour would be very welcome to save me some of the work.

                            Have a great day, everyone.

                            • Apparently it's Earth Day today , not sure how we should celebrate that. Anyone up for making an earth cake or perhaps we could just play with some earth, roll around in some even
Could have a glass of something later

Hope your back eased of enough so you could sleep Rary. All the best for your scan CG.

A dry cool day here no real plans though so probably weeding, potting on and emptying a compost bin.

                                Enjoy your day
