  • Good Morning All My washing is out too Bren. Hairdresser later this afternoon. I decided to wait until today to get some grass clippings out of the green bin. They came and emptied it while I was in the shower this morning!

    • Morning all.

Safe journey, Nicos, and please bring the warm weather with you.
A frosty start again, but sun and cloud now. Did a grory hop earlier and one of the extras that jumped into my trolley was a packet of chia seeds from the Asian isle. I've never eaten chia, but I caught a utoob video yesterday showing that you can sprout them like mustard and cress, so thought I'd give it a go. Being tiny seeds they should be ready in just a few days. At £2.50 for 250g, that's a penny a gram so value for money for fresh microgreens, I thought.

      • Morning, it’s dull but a bit warmer at 11°!! Bed changing today so that’s fun. Nothing much on the cards today. Managed to get our grory hop done yesterday afternoon so that’s another job done.
Have a great holiday Nicos, I know I’m just back but missing the family so much this time I feel like packing up and heading south again.
Anyhoo, enjoy the rest of your day folks and hope your BiL is in the mend now GF x

        • Ewwww - changing the bed's a horrible job isn't it!

I'll never forget coming home whilst OH was changing the bed early in our relationship. I found him stood at the end of the bed in starfish pose - inside the duvet cover with no idea how to get himself out lol. I've tried to teach him the trick of turning the cover inside out, grabbing the top corner & shaking but it's still a formidable task with a king size quilt. Needless to say, this is one of my jobs mainly as OH still can't manage without help

          • Good afternoon

Unfortunately the news regarding my brother in law is not good. He is now on palliative care, just keeping him comfortable. He had told the doctor a few days ago that he didn't want any invasive treatments. When I have visited the last two days he has not really been conscious.

Although he had nominated me as his next of kin for the hospital, I am not even really a relative. I am only the widow of his half brother. This morning I used my best detective skills to try and track down his nearest living relatives. I eventually got in touch with his nephew, who I have only met once at a funeral, although I knew his father very well. He is going to visit him this afternoon.

My husband had a weird family, nearly as weird as mine, although my extended family have improved with age.

I met a delivery woman from the local chemist this morning. She was telling me how well I look. Considering that I felt like death warmed up I was amazed.

            • Sorry to hear about your brother in law GF. Well done you for managing to track down his nephew though, I'm sure they'll both be glad to have the opportunity for the visit & maybe the nephew can share with others in their family.

That old saying comes to mind - you never know what goes on behind closed doors. I find that's generally true for most families - regardless of outward appearances we don't know the half of it. I only wish I could say ours have improved with age - we were always quite tight knit. The outward appearance to others probably hasn't changed but without my grandparents to knock us into shape there have been lots of disagreements. Even without outright arguing etc. (we're a passively aggressive bunch), there's a large chunk of my family I've sadly had no contact with for several years. OH's immediate family are mostly a bunch of total a*se holes so he cut off contact with them a long time ago & his mental health is much the better for it.

I'm sure you're always radiant GF even on a not so good day

              • Afternoon, sorry to hear your BiL isn’t doing too well GF, hopefully his nephews visit will lead to others also visiting.
Andraste your OH duvet struggle made me smile must admit it is easier with help.

                Flo your hair looks nice.

                • 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Me radiant!😂😂😂😂😂 Im my dreams!

I actually tracked the nephew down through Facebook which I only joined last year so that Mr GF could keep in contact with his daughter who lives abroad. The trouble was that all the older generation of his family are dead and most were childless. The nephews and niece are spread far and wide. This one however has already visited this afternoon.

As I left the hospital there was a charity stall outside run by the ambulance service. I bought a book by a favourite author for £1. Somehow between the stall and home I have lost it. I can only think that I must have put it on top of the parking machine while I was attempting to pay...... it turned out that the machine wasn't working.

I was in my fifties, after the death of my mother, who believed in "divide and rule", when I first suddenly realised, at a rare family gathering one day, that we were behaving a bit like the Waltons (of goodnight Jon boy fame).... do you remember that?

mothhawk, let us know what the chia sprouts taste like.

Now to decide what I want to eat.

                  • Very sorry to hear your BiL is not doing well, GF. Well done finding his relatives. Hopefully they will take some responsibility for decision making about his care. It's very hard for you to have to make all the decisions alone.

                    Hugs xx

                    • Loved the Waltons - a Sunday staple Keep thinking I should re-watch for the nostalgia. I was watching some Littlest Hobo episodes the other day - recapturing my youth . Loved Highway to Heaven too but know I'd only cry all through it lol.

                            • Good evening all. An utterly miserable day, it never stopped raining.

GF, so sorry to hear your bil is not doing well, hopefully your nephew will take some of the responsibility off your shoulders.

Flo, your hair looks really nice.

Spent the afternoon amusing my grandson, he has gone home now.
Time to get back to my jigsaw.
                              Have a good evening all.

Oh gf not what you needed right now, sounds like bil is being looked after though and maybe the nephew and family members will visit him.

It's a showery day ahead here, hoping to at least get in the gh.
I hope Nicos is getting some better weather.

Right, let's get the kettle on.
