  • I'm just editing my latest online shopping list. As I took my last pot of potted meat out of the freezer yesterday and it tastes so good, I've decided to make something similar to put on sandwiches or toast. I've now put pork belly slices on my list that I'll cook for several hours in the slow cooker with spices, herbs, white wine, garlic, and whatever else I decide is suitable. I'll then blend it, maybe add a bit of melted butter if it needs it, depending how fatty the belly pork is, and let you know if it has been a successful experiment .... or not.

I have not been my normal self today. I've been in "cleaning mode", a rare event. I've been doing annoying jobs such as cleaning and washing out the veg drawer in the fridge. I'm ashamed to say it's something that gets done very rarely. There was actually nothing rotting in there, mainly just dry, crispy onion skins.

I'm slowly reducing the contents of my kitchen freezer. I can actually move things around now and fit them back in. I've just taken some raspberries out to make a milkshake for Mr GF.

    Goodnight all. Sleep tight.

    • Good morning all.

An awful night's sleep. I am currently debating whether to give in and get up, even though it is not yet six o'clock.

Snow has suddenly appeared in today's weather forecast, evidently a 77% chance. I suppose that the law of averages says that they will be right eventually.

My shopping delivery is due around lunchtime too. I am actually down to my last 4 pint bottle of milk. Practically unheard of!

One last attempt at a snooze, I think.

      • Morning GF, morning all.

Very frosty morning here, but nice and cosy last night in bed. Goodness only knows what it'll be like in summer, though. These now only newish mattresses are very warm.

Nice dog walk out with Mr Snoop this morning. So good he's out and about again. I had to see the doctor yesterday and he confirmed it could be a while before Mr Snoop gets his jabs and ops. Coping well meanwhile.

On the cards for today, a bit of admin and as much paid work as I can get in before off out again into the village for more errands that couldn't be done yesterday.

Hope your milk supply is restored to its usual plentiful nature, GF. Have a great day, everyone.

        • Morning

A small Grory hop this morning, how can we be low on baked beans and have no mackerel in the freezer. Must have missed both of our last shop.

          enjoy your day

Flo, I think that I maybe took that old advert on TV "A Pinta per person per day" a little too seriously I even loved milk at school, apart from when it was left out in the sun in Summer. I remember in Winter birds used to steal the frozen cream off the top of the bottles.

Remember it well GF. It was whole milk too - I don't remember there ever being semi or skimmed. An elderly neighbour years ago only had Jersey milk.

                  • We’ve got a lidded box for our milk it’s the only way to keep it safe from birds.

                    • I remember free school milk, I also remember children chanting " Maggie Thatcher the milk snatcher" lol. We used to have a bottle of Gold Top, three Silver Top(I think that was the ordinary) and a bottle of Sterilised for Mum and Dads coffee, I didn't like that one. There were 5 of us and we drank the lot as it was considered that anything Dairy was good for you, even Lard and Dripping lol.

                      • Got slides of pics of bluetits on milk tops my dad took when i was little somewhere.
I remember the school milk and a straw. Little bottles. I still like milk.
Burnie I still use lard /dripping for pastry or roast potatoes.

Just had some proper butter, double cream and icecream from a farm near us.

                          • The district nurse made my laugh a few weeks ago. We were discussing Mr GF's waning appetite. She said to encourage him to have the full fat version of foods ..... He has always eaten the full fat version of everything! Full fat milk and yoghurt, proper butter spread thickly, and if ever given a choice of dessert, his stock answer would be "a bit of both with cream and ice cream."

He said that during WW2 butter was on ration and the only margerine available was "National margerine". He says it was comparable to axle grease.

At 6ft 3 inches tall he's always been a big bear of a man but never fat.

Made special when you got a bit of the brown stuff from the bottom

That's it Burnie - the gold top was the Jersey. Was your sterilised in a tall-necked bottle with a metal top? I only tasted that once - yuk
