  • Morning all.

^I wondered about that, MH. Cars can be fined and towed away here for parking like that. Even the car of the person who 'owns' the dropped kerb.

As for the sleep remedies, I don't even want to get out of bed in the morning, let alone in the middle of the night unless absolutely necessary.

Bright blue again here but perishing cold. The lads are here this morning, helping Mr Snoop. They're always amazed when they arrive in our valley to discover how chilly it is compared with the 'highlands' of the village and the main road.

Domestics on the go this morning. Hopeless trying to work with all the interruptions. But it's good to get some chores out of the way. Set me up for the week and that's useful.

    Have a great day, everyone.

    • Morning,

Thanks for the coffee GF. Only woke up at 10.30 today. But have been on and off sleeping all night. Got woken up a few times with next door being loud, people walking past my house drunk shouting and then this cough kept waking me up.

Lottie id phone and get the car towed away or if all else fails then just pop their tires. Teach them not to park there again.

Cold here today(No snow) but saying that our heating is playing up so we are having to wrap up just to keep warm. Going to catch up on the housework today as my car had been recalled and got to go into the garage tomorrow.

      Have a good day

      • good day all,i have looked up wind socks so many different ones, ref the van,it went, you could be right MH,but it looked like the one belonging to a friend off the nuisance large van thet gave me grief, and he knows for definate it is now droped,i was not going out anywhere, but thats not the point,CG believe me i have thought off alsorts off evilness, one has to be carefull on account off camera's i have one,if it happens when the snow has gone i will go see my counsilor again,it worked when the skip people messed me about,i have read about what to do,but at the end of the day it depends on the council and police how they operat, nothing is clear cut,the first thing you have to do is go knock on doors to get em come move it,thats what my DI law done last year, nothing, then out one came they lied,i have trouble with the post people as well, because my home is between them no's,instead off putting it A or B it has a lovely name, all registered with land registry,i cannot alter it,so when is bad weather i have to put it in next door box myself,so if am away it's tough luck for them,i even get delivery peeps come for others in the street, they assume and not look at property no,i think i will have to put a BIG notice in the porch doors ,all i want is peace,if it is possible to come back and haunt peeps when i float upwards,I WILL BE HAVING FUN,the poly tunnel frame i had with a net cover on has bit the dust, the snow had it,soooooooooooooo,am toying with the idea off getting a potting shed ,as i have no persifice space as yet,i can then have more space to store some pots ext,i know i must have a masive clear clear out,
ref sleep patterns,i find that when i cannot settle, get up,wrap up,get a hot drink and nibbles, then relax with something of your choice, anddd, forget about the time,it will wind down the brain and relax you, plus if the tummy has something inside it,it is also relaxing, satiffying feeling, right am off now, have a good afternoon everyone, ohh our snow is slowly going a bit mushy on the road,

        • What a wild and wet old day, not as bad as those who got the full force of storm "grotty", I guess we are getting the tail end. Rivers are rising and we now have yellow flood alerts as the snow melts. We have 5 degrees and light rain, but sleet possible later, not been out of the house except to feed the birds and get fuel for the stove.

Cold, wet with gusty winds for us today. Hopefully the rain will finish of the snow.
I’ve not been far either Burnie just out the back door to the recycling bin.

              • Evening n’alln’all
We spent most of the day in the kitchen baking…then sitting snug and warm watching a very old DVD seeing as our internet went down again only for 6 hrs or so, but I thought all that was sorted
Ah well. Hopefully it is now. Maybe yesterday’s repair was just a temporary fix?

We often leave a flask of boiling water in the thermos incase either of us feels the need for a warm drink during the night…or a top up of my hot water bottle. If it’s not used then OH can make a quick brew for himself if he’s up before me. It saves hanging around in a chill kitchen for it to boil.

                • Good morning.

I know that it's really early, but I can't sleep. I've been awake for ages. I've done a few duolingo lessons. I'm now considering getting out of bed, going to the kitchen, and making myself a coffee. The mere thought of standing around in the chilly kitchen is making me appreciate just how warm and cosy I am. Maybe I'll have one more attempt at going back to sleep.

That's a very good idea, Nicos, and one that I shall adopt forthwith.

What a shocking weather day yesterday, noticed how much water was on the roads and the fields flooded though we haven't had the snow, just from the constant freezing I guess. It was lethal trying to walk yesterday and I'm hoping it's thawed today.

                      Brew for anyone?

                      • Mornin n’alln’all

ooo..a brew would be lovely please CG ! Ta muchly!

Wet and windy here again…the wind sounds like the sea roaring at times. I thought we were over this storm?

Did you get back to sleep GF? How is your Italian coming along?…Don’t know why but I have a feeling, that having travelled so much in the past, that you speak quite a few languages?

I did dabble in Welsh when we lived in Cardiff many many moons ago but it just didn't click …only the odd word.
I did Italian at night school for a couple of years, and then of course I do speak French now…but I’m very much not a linguist
Sign language was very successful though - I reached Level 1 very quickly but it’s no use here - being English BSL It still very much interests me…might come in handy teaching OH a few basic words for when we both get hard of hearing!

Nipping out later , and a quick grory hop….anyone want anything whilst I’m out?
I always ask my granddaughter what she would fancy and she chuckles and says ‘chocolate croissants’. Nice to share a joke with a 4 yr old.

Enjoy your day peeps..not seen the smiles yet- have they been blown off course or are they hunkering down Snoop?

Yesterdays rain has driven the snow away, just a couple of blobs here and there.

Time for our second brew of the day and other takers.

                          Enjoy your day.

                          • Morning again.

My last attempt at going back to sleep at 5.20am worked. I think it was the thought of getting out of my warm bad and spending time in the cold kitchen making coffee that convinced my subconcious that sleep was preferable.

I 've got coffee now and it doesn't feel cold.

One of my sisters rang yesterday. We ended up discussing the best way to crush/chop/prepare garlic. She was telling me that she got a new-fangled garlic press as a Christmas present that is easy to clean and how it is far better than the ancient one that she was using. I mentioned that if my oven is on/heating up I throw some cloves into a dish, unpeeled, put the dish in the oven, and let them cook until soft (not long) and then take them out, cut the ends off and squeeze the garlic out. What is everyone else's favourite method of preparing garlic?

Mr GF has already woken up for a few minutes once this morning, very early for him. I managed to get his hearing aids in, but he fell back asleep before I could convince him to have some water and a painkiller.

We're forecast intermittent rain and much warmer temperatures today, possibly into double figures. At the moment it is dry and 9°C. Despite all the dire predictions, I never saw a snowflake here last week. There is none forecast for this week and no sub-zero temperatures

                            • I've been updating my home insurance, online mostly, but there were a couple of things it wouldn't let me do so I needed to speak to a real person. Amazingly for 9.30am on a Monday morning, after going through the predictable "press 1 for...blah blah" my call was answered after two rings. I'm impressed. If there is one thing I really hate when having to contact a company on the phone, it's the dreadful music, interspersed with "your call is important to us"... and a five to ten minute wait.
