  • bramble, you are so right. The main downside of technology, no common sense. Having said that, I do find that some humans can be lacking in it too, including myself at times.

I'm waiting for an Amazon delivery right now.

I've just wished one of nieces Happy Birthday. She has gone to Prague with her boyfriend to celebrate.

Also the tulips that were substituted for daffodils in my online shop are now opening and, particularly because they are yellow, are making me smile whenever I see them.

      • Afternoon n’alln’all

Whilst you all had snow- we had loads of rain followed by incredibly strong winds.
So much so we lost our fibre internet…almost 2 days of access.
Its literally just come on….so it’s nice to be back!
We hardly get internet outdoors here- just a one bar G3 from the local tower…which is neither use nor ornament.
I’ve no idea what damage has been done locally- apart from hearing that loads of people were also without electricity. Sounds like we got off lightly.
We have however got a large fir tree down in the garden- so that’s going to need sorting. It was actually far too tall and it lost some of its crown last winter during a snow blizzard. This has taken down the rest of the crown, leaving long spindly arms at the side and a tall thick trunk. That’s going to keep us busy for a while!

Anyway- just wanted to say hi, and it’s nice to be back

        • Wondered where you were Nicos, glad you're safe and well. We've had Frank this afternoon while one of the GGs went to browse for a new car. That dog never stops! I'm worn out

Flo did you find it made a difference hanging out those towels? I tried it just the once but found it funny taking towels as stiff a a board back indoors

Strangely yes Bren. I finished them off on the radiators and I'm sure they're softer and they have that outdoor smell too

              • Absolutely gorgeous flowers, GF. Made me smile too.

Good to see you back, Nicos. Shame about the tree. Not that great as firewood, I presume, but perhaps the easiest way to dispose of it?

Very sorry to hear about the windsock, Bren. Part of me hopes the shop-bought one isn't up to Mr Pots' standard and you have to go back to another home-made one.

I didn't make bread in the end, LD. Found two loaves of rubbish supermarket bread that Mr Snoop had bought...

                      • Good morning.

Last night, I tried a different strategy in my battle with insomnia. I didn't fight it, but decided to embrace it. I decided to stream a series on T.V. until I fell asleep regardless of the time. At 2 am I was really struggling to keep my eyes open. I've slept for 5 solid hours. I'm now feel wide awake, rested, and ready for coffee

The frost never melted yesterday, it just got thicker, and is still here.

                        Coffee made. Help yourselves.

Lottie, I would be so annoyed, and probably plotting all kinds of evil and totally unacceptable (by today's standards), revenge on the moron who has "abandoned" their car.

It's good to hear that you are back in contact with the rest if the world again, Nicos.

I was just thinking about photographs, and how we can all take them on our mobile phones, which are constantly to hand, edit them if we wish, and immediately send them anywhere in the world. I'm sure a young person would find it hard to believe how complicated, time consuming, and expensive it would have been last century.

I think a second mug of coffee is now in order.

                        Coffee made.

In the hour or so between my first and second cups of coffee Jack Frost has loosened his grip. The frost has melted away and it is drizzling now. According to the hour by hour forecast we should be having snow showers I suppose the law of averages says that one day we will get a correct forecast The trouble is by then, the forecasters will have cried wolf once too often and we probably won't believe it.

                        • Mornin n’alln’all
Anyone up for a brew?..kettle’s on.

It’s cloudy and cooler here today. Yesterday was sunny - we should have gone for a short walk then
More work on the fallen tree today. The main fallen branch has dropped in the night. It was pointing down to 7am but has now dropped to waist height - so perfect for using the chainsaw later on today maybe. OH won’t let me near it which is frustrating but he’s doing a grand job.

Gosh Lottie- I’d be fuming too. Sorry to hear that. Did you leave a note under their windscreen wipers?
                          Hope it doesn’t happen again.

Bren…have you decided to make another windsock or buy one? Must seem strange looking out automatically and it not being there!

Not sure what today will bring for us. OH will probably want to start playing with his chainsaw. I had hoped to go for a short walk at some point but the cold wind is rather offputting.
OH fancies a pie today so I thought it might might come out better in the main oven …along with a crumble and a cheese and onion quiche and a roasted cauli tomato take up the space.
So I can also feel a flapjack session coming on….

Enjoy your day peeps…keep those smiles coming…

                          • Morning

GF there seems to be lots of different ideas on getting to sleep, I watched a TV program the other day, saying if you don't get to sleep in 15mins get out of bed do something else until you feel sleepy then try again. Not something I'd fancy doing in the winter though.

I might give that a go next we wash towels Flo, thanks.

Edited to say we've bought a windsock Nicos its bright orange so its going to really stand out until its weathered.

                            • Morning all.
                              Thanks for the coffee GF

Milder today and drizzling, which is supposed to continue most of the day, interspersed with heavier rain showers. No plans for today apart from checking through my seed stash, I don't plan to sow anything till next month at the earliest.

LD, if the car parks there again, take the reg number and a photo, and report it to the council, they can issue a fixed penalty notice. It is illegal to park on a dropped kerb.

                              • Good morning all....it's dull snd damp ...but its 11 degs..
Crazy weather, but the forecast said we would get some warm air coming up from the south.

Lottie, perhaps the van driver didn't see the dropped kerb in the snow.

I wouldn't fancy getting in and out of bed every 15 minutes, that would just have you more alert.

Nicos glad the tree didn't cause any damage
Here on the east coast we have been very lucky weatherwise, no wind or snow and just a few frosty mornings.
Have a good day all and stay warm.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
