    • Sorry about the above, just couldn't let it pass without saying something.

I view you all as a great bunch and I'm grateful for knowing you

      • Our community was scattered by compulsory purchase in the 70s. A whole area demolished and although the families migrated into another area together, the spirit was lost. There is nothing "neighbourly" now. Quite sad really. When my next door neighbour of over 30 years moved away 3 years ago, I'm afraid I had a 6 foot fence erected. Like burnie, I would be moving if I won the lottery

24 houses is doable….but 200 would be difficult

Commuters mostly, I was on the village hall committee and we opened our arms to them, but we were blanked, bingo, ceilidhs all ignored by the new folks. Some bought dogs and have no idea what to do with them running everywhere, in folks gardens and don't pick the mess behind them. Our local facebook page is apparently all about dogs and their owners(I don't use fb so going on what I have been told).

          • Good evening.

The reason I picked today for a grory hop delivery was the 3% chance of snow (or rain) today. Our curtains were closed tightly. I've just been into the kitchen and we have a thin covering of snow. I've been outside, and it is still snowing, but only very fine snow that it is hard to even see. Having looked at the weather on my phone, surprisingly the 3% has suddenly changed to 90%🤣🤣 A little late, methinks! Call me a cynic, but an observation rather than a forecast maybe?

I am counting my blessings. I don't take anything for granted anymore. I've got everything I need. I'm dry, warm, comfortable, have lots of nice food and wine to hand, and am snuggled up to Mr GF.

It has now stopped snowing and the temperature is due to drop to -4°C overnight.🥶🥶

              • We have just started tiny snowflake flurries too GF. Not forecast to stick…but a really cold night again for sure.

I went to check on my primroses and snowdrops and only the leaves of the primroses are snowing. However , the soil is frozen solid so I kept off the grass as much as possible.
Is it true that if you walk on frozen grass they blades will turn brown when everything melts? My grandpa used to be most strict about keeping off frozen grass. Being the good lass that I am, I’ve never actually seen if you could leave a trail of brown footprints!

                • Nicos, I find it hard to believe that about not walking on frozen grass as Mr GF has walked across the grass to the car for the last couple of years when it freezes as it seemed safer than the steepish path. No ill effects for the grass.

                  • Morning all.

Sounds like we've got similar weather to you. A thin coating of snow on dry surfaces (exposed ground too wet), with more still falling, but such small flakes they're almost impossible to see in the air. I can only tell because they're visible on Jack's back.

First job is to walk him, and I'm not that keen, to be honest. But needs must. In fact, I'm not that keen on what awaits for the rest of the day either. So I might as well shut up, put up and get on with it.

                    Have a great day, everyone.

Edited: I find it hard to believe that walking on frozen grass kills it. Sheep wouldn't do very well if that were really the case.

Just what I was going to say, Snoop. I've walked across many snowy fields carrying 60lb bales of hay to feed ponies, and never seen any brown tracks left either by me or hooves when the snow thawed. Maybe if you have a bowling green lawn of tender grass you might notice it, but common grass is tough.

I have snow! Maybe half an inch, not enough to look really pretty, and the sun is bright now so it will probably disappear as silently as it came.

                      • Good morning

I awoke and had a peep through the window at about 2am. It was freezing hard, and still is. Although it is getting light now, not quite sunrise, there is a big fat moon shining down and the white covering on everything is making things quite bright.

Not only have the bin men been, but I never heard them at all. Some kind soul, a neighbour I presume, has already brought all the bins back from the street. I am very lucky with the neighbours in our close. Everyone chats and passes the time of day.

I also hate to see the urban sprawl encroaching on the green belt and homes being built in totally unsuitable places, but what are the alternatives with our ever growing population? Personally I would hate to live out in the wilds again with no neighbours. Once was enough.

I enjoyed growing up in a mining village with lots of countryside to explore. On the edge of our roaming "territory" was Cannon Hall. Nowadays I keep glimpsing the farm there on TV. Back in the sixties it was just another farm among many. To get to Cannon Hall, we used to walk through a picturesque village with a tiny one room museum which had some weird (to a child) exhibits. The heads of a two headed calf mounted on the wall and the wellingtons of a local who'd been struck by lightening were particular highlights for us. I remember that the curator was always so welcoming to "our gang" of grubby little unsupervised urchins.

My coffee is now drunk and the central heating has worked its magic. Time to do something productive?

                          • Morning

We have snow it started around 10 last night not much left this morning just on the grass and pavements. Its made the garden looks pretty though.

Lots of new builds around us including a development of 783 house along some commercial units, but no new schools, dentist or doctors though. But then people have to live somewhere and we're between the M1 and the countryside so a handy place to live in.

                            Enjoy your day

                            • Mornin n’alln’all

I checked our forecast last night and no snow was forecast….. so was really surprised to see it just starting to snow a couple of hours ago….and it’s still falling. 8 cm so far and it’s falling much more heavily now.
How exciting that we may get snowed in!
Looks like we may have to cancel our afternoon hospital appt.

I threw my first snowball of the year atOH this morning…whilst he was reading in bed. That’ll teach him not to keep an eye on me

Interesting what you say about the footprints! Thanks for your thoughts and observations.

Enjoy your day everyone…keep those smiles flying around
