Afternoon all (here at least).
Dull day so far, though the weather forecast says sunny. We're not due snow for a few days, but some of the clouds are looking very ominous. Might snow in the nearby mountains (highest peak 1400 metres). I think I'll get some more firewood in while the going's good.
Have a great afternoon everyone and some nice New Year's celebrations this evening.

Morning(just) firstly commiserations to Bramble and family, I hope you are ok.
Well we are on the edge of a red warning for snow and ice, I am charging up my camera batteries to go filming, but not planning on taking any risks trying to go far, the car can sit where it is. Stay safe all.

Good morning.
I know that it is early, 5.30am, but I've just woke up and I actually feel as if I've slept well, even if only for 4 hour. I've just peeped outside. There is a hard frost. Oh the joy of a modern duvet, (oh and not forgetting my six foot three inch personal hot water bottle, too).
Sorry to hear about your awful end to the year, Bramble. I hope that you've managed to have a good night's sleep.
Five hours later....
I've definitely caught up on my sleep now
and actually feel as if I've had an energy boost.
The sun is shining but the frost is still lingering. There is snow in this week's forecast but it's arrival time keeps changing. If I was sixty years younger I'd have my sledge on standby. I was part of the lucky generation brought up with benign neglect. I bet today's children only go sledging if chaperoned by parents and are taken somewhere "appropriate". How on earth did we survive without an adult in sight and no mobiles to communicate?? Sadly though, I've no photos of our childish adventures as we certainly didn't have cameras. To be fair, if my mother had seen evidence of some of our adventures, we may never have been allowed out on our own again. Her greatest fear seemed to be that we might get run over on the one "busy" road🤣🤣🤣🤣.
My youngest sister has just texted to say she has received the book back that was part of my Christmas present. She was scared of cows as a child. The solution if we had to cross a cow field ... We, my other sister and I, used to pull her jumper up over her face, so that she couldn't see them, grab an arm each, and hustle her quickly across the field😂 We all, including her, thought that this was a great solution to the problem. As adults this somehow got mentioned at a party at her house once. Some of the younger generation were horrified
.. muttering about "abuse". By the way, she has no fear of cows now.
I did try to post this earlier but 'it" wouldn't let me. I'll have another go now.

Afternoon n’alln’all
Bit late checking in. Slept late then had to rush to the vets before they closed for more medication for Hibou ( who is doing OK)
I did a pile of baking when I got home….soggy botty mince pies
and a soggy botty Brie and loganberry pie
.
I didn’t light the big oven…should have used that instead of the small worktop oven. Oh well… Will need to finish them off in a frying pan or something…and serve them up with some Gaviscon or something

I’ve managed to have a chat with a few family members and friends this afternoon so I won’t be spending all day on the phone tomorrow. Thanks goodness for free WhatsApp. I still have visions of my father standing next to me tapping his watch whilst I sat huddled up at the bottom of the stairs in the hall talking to my friends. Fair enough I guess….
Is anyone staying up to welcome the New Year in? We don’t anymore…I prefer to have an early night…be woken by the midnight fireworks…muttering ‘Happy New Year’ , and then wake up sufficiently rested ata reasonable hour to then enjoy a lovely roast in the early afternoon"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple
Location....Normandy France

Nicos, you have my sympathy with your soggy bottoms. I once attempted to bake a small fruit cake in a table top halogen oven. It ended up raw underneath and impossible to even cut into on top. In a flash of inspiration I decided to put it back in upside down.
I don't think even the birds wanted it!Last edited by greenishfing; 31-12-2025, 01:59 PM.

Himself goes to bed at 10 pm usually, leaving me to watch what I want on TV and tonight will be no different. I've never really liked New Year's Eve.
it's still freezing cold here. I'm hoping the next few days don't bring snow. My eldest and youngest GGs are going to Paris on Saturday for the eldest's birthday (she's 29).Granny on the Game in Sheffield

We usually watch Later with Jools Holland, but depends on his guests, once upon a time we would help at the village hall Ceilidh, but got fed up with the drunks, they are not kids. some are pensioners, it's as if they are only let out once a year, bunch of light weights can't handle their drinks. We found one flat out on the front lawn of her house, been there for hours apparently, keep away from them now.

Evening
We’ll be watching a film this evening something we’ve recorded previously. Or one of my Tim Burton DVD’s I’ve not watched those lately.
Fireworks have been going off since 6-ish they’ll have none left to let the new year in at this rate.
enjoy your eveningLocation....East Midlands.

It's odds on that I'll be awake a midnight. I usually am. I won't be deliberately watching any of the crap that's on TV. What a load of rubbish. I might have a look to see if I can find anything decent to stream.
It's a long time since I was interested in going out on New Year's Eve. burnie, I don't blame you for not wanting to babysit a load of geriatrics... or should that be geri-sit?
We've had some local fireworks going off for hours too. Just why? Save them for midnight.

Good night all. I just wanted to say, thank you, for the kind words and thoughts on the passing of my brother in law.
It's freezing cold here..We usually stay up to see the new year in, but we will probably have an early night and hope we will feel more positive tomorrow.
Have a good night all whatever you decide and hope you all sleep peacefully
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
