  • Good morning all. Bright and sunny but no frost.
Nicos , I hope you get to make lots of memories today.
I don't envy your trip to the port in the dark,
Lord ginger being spoiled having turkey for breakfast.
GF, I hope you managed to get back to sleep eventually.
    Have a good day all,

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

      • Morning all.

Raining hard here again after pouring all night. The fields are starting to fill up with ponds and the big drainage channel that runs the length of the valley is now flowing quite energetically. Jack has had a few firsts recently: snow, the channel that's now a river that he's never seen before and... sleeping on the bed. I woke up this morning and there he was, stretched out alongside me. He's longer than I am tall now. Took me a bit of effort to boot him off. He'll be sleeping on his own in a different room if he keeps that up.

Lucky Lord Ginger. We had another pork sandwich for brunch and I cut some off for Jack. But to be honest, it goes down his gullet so fast I'm sure he can't taste it. Must cut up the rest for the freezer today. Doubtless there will be some more that goes his way even if it barely touches the sides.

Right, better get on with things. Definitely some domestics and time to get back to some paid work.

Have a great day, everyone. Especially you, Nicos.

        • Back again.

It's definitely morning now. I remember deciding that I was going to make coffee at 5am, but I fell asleep instead. Unfortunately I then got awakened at about 7.30 by "somebody"repeatedly jabbing me in the ribs with their eldow. Aaaarrrggghhh!! This time I did get up and make coffee after threatening to ram the elbow somewhere that I'm sure would be a physical impossibility.

We had no frost here this morning and is 6°C, chilly, grey, and miserable. The heating is on

It's good to hear that you and your grand-daughter have had so much fun, Nicos. I hope the weather is good for the ferry tomorrow.

Snoop, I can just imagine your face when you saw Jack on the bed with you. My youngest brother made the "big" mistake of letting his Great Dane puppy sleep on his bed.

I finished my Lee Child book yesterday. I'll wrap it up and get Royal Mail to pick it up on Monday. I'm sure my sister will be happy with the present that she bought me

Mr GF woke up for long enough to have a glass of water and a tramadol. I'll wait until it is hopefully working before I wake him again.

Have a great day everyone. (Having spent time in the USA I can't bring myself to say "have a nice day".) For me that is only used in a sarcastic way.

            • Good morning.

It's 6°C here, which is the warmest temperature we're going to see all day ..... actually the warmest temperature we're forecast to see all week

Are you already on the way to the port, Nicos? I think this time on a Sunday morning qualifies as ridiculouso'clock.fr or .uk.

Coffee time anybody? I'm considering a trip to the kitchen via the thermostat.

Help yourselves to coffee I've brought mine back to bed. I'll feel human shortly. I remember in the late 1970s it was hard to find a decent cup of coffee in a cafe in Yorkshire. Three friends and I booked a last minute, very reduced, weekend coach trip to Northern France. I awoke at about 6am and went out to explore. I found a little bakery nearby and sat outside with a coffee and a fresh croissant and thought I'd gone to heaven. The only other thing I remember about that trip is that we crossed the channel on a hovercraft rather than a ferry.

              • Morning all.

That sounds like the best kind of croissant, GF. Very freshly baked and with a proper coffee. I once went on the hovercraft to France. Quite the excitement! Certainly very noisy.

Still raining here. So far, we're up to about 90 litres were square metre. Very welcome it is, but it doesn't half make a mess of everything. Mud and puddles everywhere. Jack and the cats are bringing in huge amounts of mud on their paws.

Got a few jobs to do and some domestics before I can settle to some work. Better get a move on.

Have a great day, everyone. Hope the house doesn't feel too empty, Nicos.

No plans here, just the usual Sunday

Snoop, thats the problem with having a little one around the house.
The place feels so empty when they're gone.
Happy Sunday to all, the last one of 2025.

                      • Morning all.

Today is the local running club's annual 10k Christmas cross country race, 400 pairs of running shoes turning most of the field footpaths to deep claggy mud once again. They will be unusable without sturdy wellies unless we have a good hard frost. It starts at 11am and already the village streets are chock-a-block with parked cars on every available space near the start. Thank goodness it will all be over in an hour and most will have vanished again.

Hope your visitors got away OK, Nicos and you are safely home again.

                        • Whatoh you chappies and chappesse's dull and miserable here ... the weathers not much better . No plans today. We (Mrs G and I) had a long conversation yesterday what to have for sunday lunch/dinner and we couldn't decide on anything we fancied having had a 'sunday' dinner on thursday so we left it as every man for themselves ... you can have what you want but you cook it yourself

Young Gus has gone off with his sister (miss G) for a long wallk aroung the woods/common over the border in Leicestershire - he'll sleep for the rest of the day when he gets back.

Gone are the days when I'd be out taking cuttings for chrysanths and sowing onions so its an easy day for me ... Mrs G would say no change there ... I could't comment

Sorry- I thought I’d posted earlier!
Yep…family gone …but we made good time despite it being very frosty - enough to buy some fresh croissants and pain au raisins for their journey.

The house is indeed quiet. I was sure I could hear the little’un chatting quietly until I realised it was the radiator quietly whistling.
I didn’t have the heart to tidy away the toys and books we’d used. Maybe tomorrow.

Gosh Snoop…that sounds like an awful lot of rain

                              • I have done something really stupid! I've watched the film "Bohemian Rhapsody" on channel 4+1 (again). It has just finished so I am now still wide awake and considering raiding the fridge.

Fridge has now been raided, only a glass of cold milk and some chocolate.

I am now going to try and go to sleep. What are the odds on that happening in the next half hour?
