Good morning (middle of the night).

I'm wide awake again ... for no good reason. By 11pm I couldn't keep my eyes open, but by 2am I woke up. According to my phone it should be snowing, but I've peeped out and it isn’t.

My supermarket delivery was an hour late yesterday. I thought it wasn't going to come. There was nothing too urgent, but I really didn't want to miss out on the very reduced tubs of Celebrations. I never realised how large an area the supermarket I use delivered to.

I hope that you've now got your heater working, Snoop, and that Mr Snoop had a satisfactory appointment at the hospital.

According to the forecast, it is now 2°C and still snowing. I have no intention of removing myself from my warm cocoon however to investigate. I might not be sleeping but at least I am warm and cosy.

Ner Sner here either GF…just rain, but it’s darned cold. Did you get back to sleep?

We’ve got the equivalent of the council cutting back hedges and cutting the grass verges going on at the moment.They were at it quite late into the evening too yesterday. Maybe they were thinking about a year ago when we had all that snow and the heavily laden branches of snow knocked out the electricity and internet for a few days?…. Hard to believe that was a year ago at the end of this month!

Not quite sure what I’ll get up to today. I’ve been checking out crafts for 5 years olds as my granddaughter and daughter are spending Xmas with us. There are so many simple , yet pretty, things she can make. I’m looking forward to it!

Morning all.

No snow here, it's raining. The forecast says it should be 3C and feel like -3C, but my outdoor thermometer is reading 7C. I haven't put a nose outside to see what it feels like though. The house felt quite cold when I woke up at 5am, so maybe it was colder overnight. The heating seems to have burbled to itself for longer than usual to get the temp up to 19C.

A warm house is so pleasant, and yet when I look back, the cold, radiator-free house of my childhood brings back no unpleasant memories, just pretty frost patterns on the windows (how many modern kids have ever seen those?), coal fires, and the dash between bed, clothes, and bathroom.

Did a grory hop yesterday, and finished knitting a scarf made from left over odds of wool, also gave the bluetit birdbox I've made out of an old bookcase a coat of wood preserver, so I have no tasks that need doing today. I could dust, but I won't.

Anyone need a brew? I'm on my second pot here so help yourselves. There's oaty biscuits and Viennese fingers (sans chocolate) in the tin to stave off hunger till breakfast, though I've had mine already.

No snow here just sleet starting soon according to the forecasts.

I can't remember being cold either MH I think we just accepted that's how it was huddled around the stove or fire, I do remember having as oven shelf wrapped in a blanket to warm the bed.

Good Morning All It's certainly cold here too, but that seems normal for the time of year when it's been so unseasonably warm! The council are trimming bushes around here as well Nicos but probably for security reasons in this area We have a Sky engineer calling today. The mini Q box upstairs is not working.

Back again.

I think, in bits and bats, I've probably had a decent amount of sleep in the end. At 7ish I had another scout around and turned the heating up. I then slid back into oblivion for a couple more hours I don't think we had any snow but Jack Frost paid a visit ....... and is still loitering. According to the forecast on my phone we have a 72% chance of snow at 10am.

mothhawk, I remember the pretty frost patterns, and the weight of blankets, eiderdowns and candlewicks, etc. I remember my toes freezing on the lino and my mother sewing another frill/flounce on the bottom of my Victorian looking nightdress so that I could tuck my feet up inside it. I know that my favourite place in Winter was curled up with our alsation on the hearthrug in front of the coal fire. I don't remember moaning about the cold however, even when I spent the odd night with my paternal grandparents who only had an outside toilet across the yard (and a bath under the worktop in the kitchen). They did however have fireplaces in the bedrooms (lit occasionally) and always had a good fire downstairs as my grandad (and dad) had their own business delivering coal. My grandad also had a closed in fire in his large greenhouse with pipes (I presume full of hot water) that ran through his raised beds. Even at school I don't think it was particularly warm unless you were lucky enough to get a desk next to the big fat hot water pipes. I remember my mother buying an electric blanket. Just for her side of the bed!!

It's gone 10am now and although there's thick cloud cover it doesn't look the right colour or texture for snow.

Good morning all..it's a lovely crisp sunny morning here at 2 degs.
My sister has just sent a text to say its snowing in London.
I will be making a batch of tomato soup today, need more space in the freezer.
I have been making a jigsaw on the dining room table for some time now but I am stuck.
Parts of it are too dark and my eyesight is not good enough so my daughter and GG are coming this evening to help me complete lt.
Our car is going for it's NCT test this afternoon so fingers crossed.

Gosh - I’ve never heard of that chant….I’m clearly from t’other side of Pennines

My Granny was an avid knitter of blankets for the church to send to ‘those in need’ just rows of different coloured squares all sewn together , just large enough to pop over the knees and cover the legs. Occasionally she’d knit me woolly bed socks in obscure colours she didn’t feel she could use for the blankets. I absolutely loved them as a kid…so cosy and warm!

I mostly remember her sat in her chair knitting ( sometimes watching tag wrestling) or sat holding yet another fresh cup of tea.

My paternal grandma once knitted me a 'buzzy bee' jumper. Black and yellow stripes. I loved it. My mother hated it. She tried, unsuccessfully, to teach me to knit. Eventually my left handed godmother taught me the basics. I then taught myself the rest. Knitting was a favourite hobby for years. One of my "creations" ....

Good morning, have been a bit preoccupied, recently and OH has now been told that she has a fracture in a bone in her back, hence the severe pain that she is experiencing, she was supposed to go and give another blood sample today but having great difficulty moving so the appointment has now been cancelled. Havent been doing much myself as I dont like going out and leaving her by herself, though I did take the opportunity of going on to the roof and repairing the area that water was getting in, OH evidently doesn't know, but will inform her once she is back on her feet, as no doubt she will notice there is no water coming in, then again I could say that someone repaired it for us, no that wouldn't work, she knows I have no money to pay anyone
