  • Good Morning All Stayed in bed to finish another book, but I had been up earlier to make my cup of tea and set the washer going. I doubt I'll be able to hang it out as it's drizzling. Have a good day

Heavy rain here all day so I'll only be venturing into the garden for some parsley.

I will miss it now that's it's ended. Not enough home grown programmes,
We both watch the Sewing Bee but don't like how someone has to leave each week. Why can't they save the scores until the last program then have a overall winner.

      • Good morning all, it's dry and sunny here.
Lots of domestics to catch up on today, nd some gr9cery dhopping.

Bren, I suppose if they waited until the end of the series they would have to keep everyone sowing every week, so not so competitive.
So many talented people, I will miss it.

CG, that's a lot to cope with and I hope your health improves.

Nicos, I'm afraid we live in a disposable era where there is no will to mend or repair anything.

Snoop, I hope Jack starts behaving better, and gives you a break

Rary, I'm not a bit surprised to hear you can sew, seems you can turn your hand to anything.

Good news I think. The white cells causing issue have dropped from 1.4 to 0.8. Considering they had always been 0 im pleased with that.

Its rained almost all day here, never mind it'll be good for the garden. ( I keep telling myself)

That does sound like good news CG.

            • Evening!
Busy day, but we did nip into that electrical shop and bought a TV!…ended up being the same one, but a 2025 version as opposed to the cheaper 2024 version.
Will set it up tomorrow- so fingers crossed please it’s working ok…at least it didn’t looked cracked in the shop and we drove home like it was a massive basket of eggs

Grory hop tomorrow- just basics. Funny how they always seem to run out about the same time!

Rain is due to start here on Saturday but until then we are now expecting a high of 27C- so it’ll be great if we can crack on with starting the Autumn clear up! We already have several piles of leaves. We’ll leave some of course for the insects.
Sorry if I’m hogging the nice weather…I pass some to the smiles as they pass over tomorrow….

              • Good night all.
It was a beautiful day here, it got up to 19 degs. I spent most of the day clearing up dead leaves, weeds and spent flowers..I pulled out the last of the sweet peas and dismantled the fence they were climbing on, Its past its sell by, so I need to install a new one for next season.
Tidied up the tomato plants and removed some more leaves in the greenhouse, it will free up some space to overwinter my geraniums, pleased with all I got done just because it was a dry day,
                Pleasant dreams all,

                  • Evening all.

I'm in bed but wide awake.

I love to watch spiders, Jay. They fascinate me. There used to be a massive one that was living in my lounge, up near the ceiling. For months I didn't have the heart to remove it's webs, as long as they stayed well above head height. Every time I went in there I used to look for it.

Nicos, in the cul de sac where I live there is a very unofficial, but efficient, electrical and scrap recycling system. All the residents dump their old appliances behind a wall on a spare piece of land and every few weeks a guy in a van comes and loads up whatever is there, and takes it away. It reminds me of the rag and bone man who used to come round when I was a kid.

I just remembered that tomorrow is bin day and the bin men have been coming early lately. I got up to go put my bin out but some kind neighbour has already done it for me.

                    Sweet dreams everyone!

                    • Mornin n’alln’all

                      Rubbish sleep again
Anyway, Hibou is happy to have a playmate…but she’s headed off into the garden now for her morning adventures…
                      Kettle is on…help yourselves.

Our large spiders haven’t headed into the house yet but Hibou is usually the one to spot the first - often under the sofa for some reason. We do get a lot of those very thin daddy long leg type spiders lurking in the corners of the ceiling and under shelves etc.
Always a sign that Autumn is truly upon us.

I have childhood memories of the rag and bone man…horse slowly plodding along with the guy shouting out “raaaag bowwwwn” in that wobbly tone.
The filthy coalman with his sacking bags of coal ….the milkman , and the pop van. And of course the icecream van. Gosh, those take me back… At least I’m too young to remember the night soil carts!

Has anyone started collecting leaves yet? We have several barrows ready to pop in the compost bins. An exciting promise of free compost for next year!

                      Enjoy your day peeps ..

I've already had tea thanks. Will head for our walk shortly. Its not getting light so fast today, supposed to be a bright morning buts it's pretty windy. Forecast said its going to be northerly winds this weekend and colder brrrr.
Need to go for some shopping. May not do mums until weekend, OH working then.

And I'm not keen on giant legged spiders

                        • Morning all.

Tea would be lovely, Nicos, ta. Windy here too, CG, and grey skies, but a bit of Nicos' warm weather should blow here tomorrow and Friday before those northerly winds blow in.
My old car went for scrap yesterday. It felt a bit like having to send a tired old horse to the knackers, quite sad. But the shiny new car with all its up to date bells and whistles comes tomorrow!

I came across a recipe online to make fruit curd (as opposed to lemon curd) from any jam, so I may give it a try today. I've never made or even tasted any curd except lemon, so it will be an interesting experiment. Does anyone else make fruit curd?

                          • Morning all.

The spiders are moving in here too. Some of them quite sizeable jobs. But nothing like yesterday's visitor. I noticed Missie studying an area of the ceiling, and when I went to look at what she had spotted, it turned out to be a five-inch-long scolopendra (only Google for them if you're good with multi-legged beasties). It headed towards us and dropped off right beside her. Cue frantic scenes of me grabbing her by one back leg to try and get her out the way (the bite is extremely painful for humans, goodness only knows what it would do to a small cat) while trying to whack it to death with my shoe - thank goodness for Scholl slip-ons, easy to remove in a hurry and a good and sturdy sole. Even so, scolopendra are not easy to kill... Mission accomplished eventually. I show absolutely no mercy to these things if I'm suitably armed.

I've had orange curd before, mothhawk. Nice, but I couldn't get past the feeling that it ought to be lemon, which I love. Have you got a particular flavour in mind?

Not much other news. I've managed to sweep the floors. Not easy with Jack around, as the broom is his favourite toy. Mr Snoop is now waiting for a phone call from the doctor. And after that, I've got errands in the village and then on with the paid work. Idle hands would be a fine thing!

                            Have a great day, everyone.

                              • Good morning.

Not a good night's sleep. Right now I could drop off very easily, of course, but then I'd end up in a vicious circle of being even more wide awake tonight. Hopefully a bucket of coffee, or two, will wake up my brain.

mothhawk, I once made Morello cherry curd, when I had a glut. It was a let down. What sort are you trying? I hope that you like your new car. I still regard our latest with suspicion. It frequently thinks that it knows better than me, and gives me annoyingly obvious warning messages, such as "possible ice or snow" every time the temperature drops. One of my favourite scenes in a TV programme was John Cleese beating his car with a tree branch in Fawlty Towers. I've come close a few times over the years.

                                Coffee now!
