  • Morning

Rain here for the day, never mind plenty to do indoors, might even make a start on my 'winter' cards. A quick Grory hop here as well Nicos just for more fish we seem to be running low.

    Enjoy your day.

    • Good Morning All Raining here too. Himself is going to the Nurse for the other ear this morning so hopefully we can turn the volume down on the TV!
I played a lot of table tennis in my youth and hockey. I was also quite good at lawn tennis. My sister made me a tennis dress from her wedding dress!

      • Good afternoon, dull but dry as well as being reasonably mild, was. out for a shopping earlier when daughter phoned to see if I was near finished with it as her youngest was getting sent home from work with suspected covid, and could I pick him up from the train, he was at a rave? on Saturday night, so highly likely that has picked up covid from that, wasnt too happy with that, It had got everything on my list and had just started looking for things that I wanted, when OH isn't shopping with me I get the opportunity to pick things I want, instead of "What do you want that for" or "I dont like that" or simply "No way are you getting that, do you see the price of it" at times I feel that ill done to, then again I'm quite sure, most if not all, husbands feel the same at times, anyway I wish you all a pleasant day and lots to smioe about, but remember to pass them on

          • Well, it took open curtains, and the TV turned on to lure Mr GF into the land of the living. I wanted him organised at a reasonable hour as the District nurse will be calling today and last time she came early and he was NOT happy to be awakened by a strange young nurse wanting to inspect his bum The fact that he didn't have his glasses on or hearing aids in didn't help matters. It's obviously odds on that as he is organised today, the nurse will not call early.

No nurse yet....... I 've just made some mayonnaise with the stick blender. It's now chilling in the fridge. We'll probably use some as a dip for some sweet potato wedges later. I really got into mayonnaise with chips when I lived in Holland many years ago.

Rary, I hope your grandson isn't too poorly. It's sad to hear that you never got to do "your" shopping.

            • My Dutch penfriend introduced me to chips and mayonnaise in cones when I visited her near Amsterdam. I always put Heinz mayo on my Chips when I can instead of vinegar…Mmmm

Sounds like you’ve hada very adventurous life GF

Has the nurse not been yet?

                • No, the nurse has not been. She'll probably appear tomorrow or on her next scheduled appointment ....friday now Mr GF has healed anyway due to their ministrations, so not bothered either way. I do have a 24/7 phone number for them if I need them.

I'm hoping that we both have a better night's sleep tonight....full moon or not

                  • Mornin n’alln’all

Early start for us today - lots to do, and the washing machine needed waking up with a rather big nudge…
Did you manage a decent sleep GF?

Bonfire Night! I must remember to get the Parkin out! Lots of happy childhood memories of bonfires in back gardens, penny for the guy, fireworks, using the Halloween carved turnips to light the sparklers , walking the misty streets collecting rocket sticks…jacket spuds baked in the fire, hotpot and treacle toffee…and for me,without fail, playing Cluedo with the older children whilst our parents nattered in another room.
My children grew up being taken to organised events.
Is anyone celebrating tonight or over the weekend or is the whole idea of bonfire night rituals being lost?

Anyway…I hope I’ve just taken you down your own Memory Lane.

Time for a brew….help yourselves, and enjoy your day folks

                    • Good morning all.

Unfortunately, no, Nicos, not a good night's sleep. I just got a couple of short catnaps. The heating is on now, and I'm guzzling coffee.

It's miserable and drizzling at the moment, typical Bonfire Night weather. We usually had a bonfire in the back garden when I was a child, although we occasionally went to a friend's house. My dad was in charge of the fireworks and lighting the bonfire.

At different times, I remember hot dogs, jacket potatoes, pea and ham soup, toffee apples, and of course parkin. It was exciting. I can't imagine that any organised event could recreate that feeling or the wonderful smells.

There were a lot of fireworks here on Saturday. I presume that lots of folk were celebrating early.

I don't know if there will be many fireworks tonight. Mr GF says that he used to make his own fireworks as a teenager. He says that he used to go buy gunpowder at the local hardware shop This was obviously in the days before 'Elf and Safety' had been heard of. He also made a mini cannon, that fired ball bearings, in his metalwork class

I remember being sent into town as a child to buy something. I can't remember what it was, but I had to sign the "poisons book." Obviously, lots of things didn't have a minimum age in the "olden days." How did any of us survive childhood?

                      • Morning all.

Sounds like Mr GF led an exciting childhood, GF!

Cats woke me up early today. They clearly still haven't adjusted to me adjusting to the clock change... I tried going back to bed after feeding all the animals, but Jack had other ideas. Anyway, quite a lot done already today, though only a few items crossed off my to-do list. I don't do lists like this very often. I ought to in a bid to keep myself on the straight and narrow, but they're so depressing.

On the plus side, my ancient car passed its ITV yesterday. Usually it's Mr Snoop that takes the cars in, so I was doubly nervous. But I was the only one there and the guys were really friendly, so I didn't feel like too much of a fraud and a fool. I bet I was their most enthusiastic pass yesterday! I was convinced it would fail.

Right, better get on with a few more jobs on the to-do list.

                        Have a great day, everyone.

                            • Good morning, very heavy rain here this morning, OH still not making any progress, now on tramadol to see if that helps with the pain, but no change yet, there is one thing that's fine with her and thats the eye sight, she seems to see dust far better than I can, some how I dont think she is accepting my reason for this, I am thinking if her and giving some motivation to move, if I did as normal and had everything spotless, she would just sit all day,
Our grandson appears to have the flu, daughter phoned to ask if I would go up and give him some medicine later, he will be desperate to get better as he sits his driving test next week, now need to go and pacify someone and kid on I am dusting everything, hope you all have a good day and if you are getting this heavy rain take care if you need to go out, and if you are out remember to pass on the smiles

Bramble - yes…it’s very awkward explaining to our french friends and neighbours why we celebrate killing a Catholic all those years ago…but then we mention Joan of Arc too ( who the English also killed)
Why do you do the bonfires on 31st October?…Samhain- Celtic New year ?
