Good morning.
Mr GF is still asleep and I am guzzling coffee. I slept well and only woke up once.
The district nurse is due to visit Mr GF again today.
I've already been shopping this morning .... virtually. I've only ordered two more single quilt covers, to match the two sets that I've got, for when we get spilt cups of tea, etc.
We don't get trick or treaters either, I'm glad to say. I think it's an awful commercial American import...... and an excuse to buy lots of plastic tat..........
The district nurse has now been. We had to awaken him to have his dressings changed which involved some swearing and cursing. I think he was very disorientated, being awakened .... no glasses, no hearing aids, and people wanting to remove his clothes. His pressure sores are much better however. He has now taken his tablets, had a cup of tea, got dressed, has had a shave and is happily munching cornflakes. Croissant and jam next.

Afternoon all.
The window cleaner came early this morning, so naturally there has been a good downpour of rain since, undone most of his good work.
Hope you're able to catch up on work, Snoop, so you can have a lazy weekend for a change.
GF, good to hear Mr GF's pressure sores are getting better, they are always a worry if they won't heal.
Trick or treaters come round here, but I've noticed in recent years that they only go to the houses that have Halloween decorations outside or in the windows, which I think is a good idea. As I put none up they don't knock on my door. As GF says, dreadful American import. Wouldn't be at all surprised if we started celebrating American Thanksgiving. Stores are always looking for ways to part us from our money. It's a wonder they don't have special November 5th decorations and cakes, as well as fireworks and sparklers.

Good afternoon, started this post at 10.50 this morning, but had to go and collect a prescription from the surgery then up to the chemists, before heading up to a builders merchant where I bought a thinner board to put onto the bed, as OHs back is giving her pain again and hopefully I can get the board under the bed without her seeing it, so that way less moans and groans, have you noticed how with some people (wives
) may not want something but if they don't see you putting it in place its fine, just hope it works after all I have spent money on it
, was at the church coffee morning yesterday we were sitting with two other women when one asked what I was doing in the garden nowadays, so told them that I am altering my raised bed in the greenhouse by making it with concrete edging and monoblock and doing away with the wooden bed which hopefully will save me having to replace it when I'm old, for some reason they both laughed, I was going to ask them what they were laughing at but another couple came in and,sat beside us so I didnt get the chance, but will need to ask them about it on Sunday, righw going to prepare the bed ready for the board arriving, have a good day and find somw to smile about then pass the smiles on

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Mornin n’alln’all
Hope this board helped Rary ? Did she notice?
We ‘ve had heavy rain and drizzle all night and the ground looks sopping wet. So…Indoor Stuff today for the most part but I’m sure I’ll somehow get some gardening done
I quite fancy getting some of my family tree stuff together- it’s in terrible array
there’s a good few weeks worth of sorting and writing up to get through ( over 25 years worth)Maybe even putting it on Ancestry…That should keep me out of mischief for a good while!
We’re just fancying scrambled egg with mushrooms on sourdough crumpets this morning for breakfast..Never had them before but we picked them up on our last visit to the uk and froze them. Looking forward to trying them out.
Hope everyone is doing ok…and that you manage to get more work done over the weekend Snoop.
Bet you can’t wait to retire!…not long now from what you said?
Enjoy your day peeps- anyone got exciting plans? Those smiles whizzed overhead earlier ( supercharged no doubt by Jack
) certainly with a purpose on their way somewhere…..

Morning
Enjoy your crumpets and eggs Nicos, poached duck eggs on toast for us this morning. Sourdough crumpets are tastier than ordinary ones I tried making them a few times but couldn't get those holes to form. So made pikelets instead they're not same texture but much easier to make.
No trick or treaters again this year, so I'll be passing on those sweets I used to hang on to them in case we had carol singers.
enjoy your day

Good morning
Rary, I hope that your new board has helped Mrs Rary get a good night's sleep.
I have been awake for a few of hours, but have only just made myself a coffee, and sneaked back into bed. When I got out of bed and grabbed a fleece hoodie, that I'd thrown off last night, I was delighted to find that it was really warm as it had landed half on the radiator. Mr GF awoke for long enough to poke me in the ribs, smile, and give me a kiss. He's sending the zzzzs out again now😴😴
I can't believe that it's November already. October just flew by.
I can hear the rain outside. I think it is forecast for every day this week. It could be worse ..... snow. Evidently our reservoir levels have now risen for 7 weeks in a row, but we still have drought restrictions.
Bren, pikelets and crumpets ...... When I was a child what we now call crumpets were called pikelets in this area. I never realised until now, that there is a separate food called a pikelet. I know that somewhere, lurking in a bookcase, is an old Yorkshire W.I. cookery book, much annotated by previous owners. I'm sure that there is a recipe in it for pikelets. I must investigate.
I'm fancying poached eggs too now. I've never had poached eggs with crumpets but I can imagine the egg yolk dripping into the little holes.

Time for more coffee, I think.

Those crumpets were really tasty Bren..as you say, more so than the standard ones.
Not sure though that I’d put peanut butter on them in that they have a more savoury flavour. But having said that…needs must in times of emergency
( bit like having to eat the last of the chocolates in a box of chocices so you can throw the box out…my least favourite are coffee creams and pralines…but …needs must…
)
Just wondering which are your favourites and least favourites?
My favourites are always a hard toffee centre and orange creams ( strange cos those are really sickly!)"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Good Morning All
Raining here. We always called them pikelets when I was young GF - I thought crumpets was the posh name for them! Favourites in a box of chocolates are strawberry or orange creams, or Turkish delight. Least favourite definitely coffee cream. Not keen on hard centres but Himself would happily get through those - given the chance
I'm halfway through making chicken tikka wraps for the freezer. Nothing else planned today. Have a good day

Good morning all, it's finally stopped raining and we have the sun.
I must admit I never heard of pickelets.
Toasted crumpets with butter and cinnemon were one of our favourites, haven't had them in years.
A bit of gardening today but then my daughter in law is visiting with my grandson.
My favourite chocolates ....Turkish delight and orange cream.
I don't want to think about chocolate as we indulged ourselves on holiday and now it's time to get back on track.
Have a good day all,
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Nicos, the one chocolate that I could never, and still can't, abide was Turkish delight. "Delight"
Who are they kidding? Anything else I would eventually eat, sucking and eating the chocolate off any large nuts though. It reminds me of the advert with the dad who doesn't know how he's caught a bug, and the little girl, with a runny nose, sucking the chocolate off the peanuts and putting the nuts back in a bowl .............

Morning all.
Lots of dark clouds with bright sunshine between this morning, but no rain. I've spent the last hour defrosting the fridge freezer. The freezer part had accumulated so much frost it was getting hard to close the drawers. By rights, it should defrost itself when needed, but it's in its dotage now and can't be bothered, so I do it every three months or so. I'd buy a new one, but I'm hoping to have a new kitchen next year so I'd rather wait till then. It is happily ticking and clicking to itself now as it chills back down.
On the positive side, now that everything is tidy inside there is quite a bit of spare space so I may make some more mince pies to freeze down to join the dozen already in there.
The house has been dusted and vaccuumed so I am feeling quite virtuous now and intending to take the rest of the day easy.

With chocolates, I like the fudge and toffee ones best. I never understood that phrase Forrest Gump says - "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get" until my sister explained that in the US there is no guide on the boxes to say which chocolate is which.
Recently I've been watching Hercules Candy videos after a random one popped up in my feed. It is a family business that hand make all their candies and chocolates and it is quite fascinating how the choc cream centres are poured in cornflour moulds, and how the boiled type candy is hand poured and pulled. Amazing that they survive in this factory centred world.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
