  • Nicos, I've noticed the vine has been intermittently slow lately.

Care link rang me thus morning to say that my brother in law fell twice, once last night and once this morning. He hasn't hurt himself but couldn't get up again without help. He is supposed to be seeing a specialist at the hospital when they come back off holiday in a couple of weeks. I just hope it's not anything serious causing it.

I've taken your advice, Flo, and have got some paper liners for the air fryer. It does a good job on the frozen croissants. I've also just ordered a rack for it.

    • Hope he's ok GF and that there's nothing sinister making him fall.
I do sometimes put the rack in the paper tray for things like sausages, so the grease can drain. Then you just have the rack to wash. I've not tried "boiled" eggs, though a lot say the results are good!

      • Florence Fennel, have you ever cooked a whole chicken in it? As I love crispy skin I think it might be my downfall.

Yes. I rarely put the oven on for roast chicken. I start it off breast down and turn it over halfway through. Crispy skin bonus

          • Evening all.

Vine's been slow here for a while, Nicos. I assumed it must be my computer bunged up with too much data, so I've been removing cookies and browsing data and defragmenting and all the other things you do to speed it up. other sites are fine though, so it must be just this one. Even have to wait for the like button to make up its mind. Pictures won't load either.

            • Gf I use silicone liners they work fine so long as they have ridges on the base for air flow.

              • Evening, rain, rain rain, once it starts it forgets to stop!!
So sorry to hear about your dog Snoop and your daughters too bramble. As rary says they do become a huge part of your family.
Not a lot being done today. Caught up on laundry which again is on clothes horses due to the rain. Luckily we can put it in the garage and open the door for some air. Maybe we shouldn’t have bought the whirlie as it’s rained since!!😀
Enjoy the rest of your evening folks, amazing how light it is at night now. x

                  • Mornin n’alln’all

Tis a lovely misty start to the day…birds are a-singing . Perfek

Still struggling to manoeuvre on the Vine, but it’s being sorted….sorry about that!

I almost finished preparing the tomato area yesterday so I’m planning on that as my main aim for today, then painting some large plastic pots I was given a while ago.
Don't like the fact that they are plastic, but they do paint up pretty well and make it possible to move around if needed once potted up.
We actually have an old ‘cauldron ’ we bought which has drill holes already in the base…and that’s almost impossible to move even when empty!!!

Hope the rain stops for you soon Jay. Are you able to store some of it for later in the summer?
I was reading yesterday that the UK desperately needs new reservoirs to keep up with demand. And then I thought about all those leaking Victorian pipes wasting so much treated water. Feels like they’ve got their priorities wrong somewhere.
                    Don’t get me started!!

                    So..most importantly…who fancies a brew?

The like button is back up to speed again.

Very warm here, it was 17C at 7am. I've got the washing machine and the iron earning their keep, but right now I'm having a mid-morning mint tea.

                        • Good morning all. Bright and breezy here and it 16degs.
I have a lot of bedding plants ready to go out so hoping for a dry day..

Nicos, regardirng new reservoirs, we have the same problem here, ancient pipes that need to be replaced.
We get a few dry weeks and we are told there is a water shortage..
                          All talk but no action.

Anyway, have a good day and smile.

You will find yourself a partner,

Warm with misty rain here, some proper rain later though.

We've had a Wren building a nest in our lean-to this past week only seen one bird up to yet but its looking promising.

                            enjoy your day.

                              • Good morning all.

Bliss! A lie in! It was only the thought of coffee and a fidgety husband that eventually drove me out of bed.

Thinking about the reservoirs, I agree that there's a lot of water that leaks away, but the reservoirs must have been built for a much smaller population that used far less water per capita. Most probably shared the bath water in the tin bath... once a week. Few people even had a hot tap in the house. My mother told me that as a child, they actually had a bathroom ....... but all the water had to be heated on the range in the kitchen and carried upstairs in buckets! I don't think I'd have been having a long, deep soak unless I had servants to fetch and carry. Wash day must have been a nightmare. The joy of loading the automatic washer and pressing a button. Even in mining communities most pits didn't have baths or showers for the miners until less than a hundred years ago.

There's no sun here yet, showers are forecast. Where did that hint of Summer go?

I think I'll go and make more coffee now and think myself lucky that I live in the 21st century.
