  • Good morning all, dull and cool here.
Meeting up with my hubby's family today so there won't be much gardening done.

Flo, good to hear your wedding rigout is sorted, it must be a weight off your mind.

Jay, nothing comes easy, sent to try our patience.

Have a good day all. Rr

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

      • Back again. I did get another couple of hours sleep.

I have just been roaming around the delights of IKEA on the Internet. I desperately need a couple of strong everyday dining chairs. I have found some that look ideal. Free delivery on Saturday. I'm sure that I'll be waiting impatiently, screwdriver at the ready. One of the good things about IKEA furniture is I've never known it be flimsy. (I can remember the "horrors" of MFI flat packs in the 1960s/1970s and their woeful customer service). My mother actually went to hide when I supposedly showed her up when I went to complain. I may have looked young and blond and stupid but they got more than they bargained for.

        • I was on the very same site this morning gf!
Tea towels. The selection here is different. The ones I used to get aren’t available here anymore…but they appear on the uk site at 75p each
I’m absolutely fed up of providing new tea towels for the gites and them being stained so much as to be unusable for other clients. I have drawers full of near as brand new, badly stained tea towels for my own use.
I leave 4 for the week and happy to exchange for new ones but I’m not happy paying 3-4€ each here for them to be ‘ruined’. At least half can’t be reused in the gites…and that adds up considerably over the holiday season.
          At 75p each I’m ok with that…but not at4€ each…..
( and nope…not providing them isn’t an option sadly)

So….cut cut the long story short…. I’m planning on ordering 40 for my son to bring over with him!
Very happy with that find and decision

Enjoy putting together the chairs!…I have a couple in one of the gites and am very chuffed with their quality.

          • Afternoon. Cooler and duller today but sun is due back later.
Whirlie problem solved. OH has been thinking about it since yesterday as there is no way to dig a hole deep enough for the ground spike due to earth being so dry and rock hard. He realised there was a cap on the end of the whirlie which when you remove it means it would fit over the existing spike which is cemented in. Job done and laundry out!! Well done that man!
Hope you all have a fab day!! x

                • Well done Mr Jay!
Flippin typical about the rain though!

I’ve had to start watering the newly made patio beds and pots as their root systems aren’t yet properly established.

One pot elsewhere hasn’t been doing well for the last couple of years so we decided to empty it…transfer its plants into borders , and use it for sweet peas as it’s pretty big.
OH tipped the contents out, only to find it’s basically an ants nest…complete with larvae etc Little wonder it was’t doing well..even with watering!…you’d have thought the watering would have made them want to move out wouldn't you?

They have always seemed to cope with my watering but to get rid I had to literally drown them or 😟😵‍💫 pour boiling water over them.

                      • Well…the soil has been left to the birds. If the ants can relocate their pupae thingies then they are most welcome seeing as they are now in our field part of the garden.

Its no wonder is it that the plants weren’t thriving is it?

                        • Good evening, it has been a bit cooler and cloudy today but still dry and no sign of rain finally back in our own house, both son and daughter back from their holidays, apart from the early rises to take the boys to their work, they were no bother, but its good to get back to our own house, having the chance to have a look round the garden I have noticed that I have a couple of courgettes on one plant, I thought the one in the poly tunnel would have been the first but no its one planted outside, no matter where they're growing I will still enjoy them some of my flower plants are showing signs of stress so intend covering the greenhouse roof with some shadding, this is something that I have only recently had to consider, so will be back out shortly to work out how I can get the shading on with the minimum bother
Enjoy the rest of the evening and keep smiling

Talking of ants and pupae I found lots in my compost bin earlier today a good watering and a dig around soon got them moving..

Good news about your ground spike Jay not so good about the rain.

                            • Morning all.

Fantastic storm yesterday. But looks like it might have been the last of the long spell of rain we've been having. It's been brilliant. Our olive trees are heaving with flowers this year. Last year was a dire harvest, so the farmers will be pleased.

On the cards for today: not much frankly. M up the valley persuaded our Italian neighbour to do lunch for us and other friends who are visiting, not really to see us but our dog, who formed a very close bond with one of the friends who got stuck here for months during the Covid lockdown.

As for ants, I haven't seen that many so far this year. I left my compost bin open during the rainy spell, so that will have discouraged them in there, I hope.

                              Have a great day, everyone.

                              • Mornin n’alln’all

Sunny start here…the garden calls, but I have to do a quick grory hop today as I’ve been putting it off.

OH is on a committee organising a hog roast next month for the whole village.
It’s been suggested they all wear Asterix and Oberlix costumes Looks like making a costume will be on the books for me to do over the next few weeks…as well as making black out curtains for a couple of the bedrooms.
So…a few wet days here would come in handy. After all the rain and rubbish winter and spring weather I hadn’t realised how desperate I’ve been to be outside pottering.

Tis my granddaughter’s first half day at preschool today …with no mommy hanging around…think I need to give mommy a phone call to help cheer her up as she’s really quite worried about her.

                                Right..best get a wriggle on.
But first …Snoop- have to say that I’m very pleased to hear about the olive flowers…Hope it’s a bumper year for everyone .

                                enjoy your day peeps…
