  • At long last it seems as if there is some possibility of discharge from hospital for my brother in law. I had a social worker ring me this morning. My experience of the social workers at the hospital isn't brilliant. They were involved with my late sister in law's care. It seems as if my brother in law is in a generally far worse state of health now than when he went into hospital. He is evidently going to need carers 4 times a day and has got a catheter fitted. I am not impressed.

The cherry jelly, with cherries in, that I made earlier for tonight is a big hit with Mr GF. He has already sampled it.

Tomorrow I'm going to make some more date and apple chutney in the slow cooker.

            • Evening all.

GF, I hope your BiL begins to improve once he's home again. At least he'll stop picking up new infections. Bring back Matrons and proper cleaning staff, I say. Did the hospital discover what was causing him to fall, and if so, have they fixed it?

Nicos, I had to scroll back to find out why you were advising GF to put a blanket on her summer bedding plants.

I've had a fairly busy day. I needed to get into the loft to get the wallpaper stripper out, and decided as I wobbled up the ladder, that I must empty everything out of the loft. Too old for wobbly ladders now I reckon. I got probably half the stuff out then spent the afternoon rediscovering it all, and assigning most to the charity shop pile.

There was stuff I'd completely forgotten, including a 6 place Royal Stafford tea service, the soda syphon, 2 sets of Monopoly (one regular, one Leicestershire), a carrier bag full of holiday snaps, a 1970's Swan teasmade, and first day covers from the B.V.I. of the queen's golden anniversary, the Queen Mother's 100th birthday, and one when she died in 2002.

I'll leave the Xmas stuff up there till December, but the rest I will get down and dispose of by hook or by crook!

              • Mornin n’alln’all
Heavy rain overnight and still sploshing away.
MH….had that been me, most would have gone back up again Most impressed!
Had a chuckle about the blanket/ plants too when I read your post!

Most of my jobs today were for outside, so I may get the dreaded iron out if the rain continues .At least the plants must be loving it after the hit dry weather we had last week.

Hope everyone has a great day, one way or another
Lots of Smiles whizzing around at top speed here…looks like it’s going to be a great day

                  • Morning all.

Bright sunshine here. All the doors shut up to keep the heat out. Looks like I might be moving down to my summer cave shortly if this keeps up.

Nice breakfast with the visitors but not sure what the rest of the day will bring. Better be some work in the mix though. Got some whopper butter beans on the go. No idea what size they'll be when fully cooked but they were huge after soaking.

Glad the smiles were on form this morning, Nicos. They're setting off earlier and earlier these days. I should follow their example and get up much earlier.

                    Have a great day, everyone.

                      • Good morning all.dull, grey and raining.
Domestics this morning and a bit of shopping.
Out for an early dinner this evening and thrn we have tickets to see Tina Turner the musical.

As for the loft, or the attic as we call it, lots of stuff from bygone days.
We are always saying we must get it sorted.
However, the road to heaven is paved with good intentions....one of these days.
Anyway, have a good day and enjoy the sunshine, those who have it,
The smiles have just flown past...they are not staying because of the weather.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,

Flo, maybe I got my metaphors mixed up.
I will just have to look on the bright side. 😄

                              • Too late for the teamaker, Flo! It was still in its box, never used. Now it's in the electricals recycling skip at the tip, along with a seldom used foot spa. Everything else has gone to the local animal shelter, except the tea service which I shall maybe put in auction, and the first day covers, which I gave to my bro as he has a stamp collection.

Bramble, I call an attic a space under the roof you can stand up and walk about in, and a loft, as I have, is the space between the roof joists and you can only stand up under the highest point of the joists.
