  • Morning the suns now out it was a bit dull earlier.

Snoop there does seem to be a lot of difference in flour both in the feel and price if i'm in the supermarket I'll pick up a bag otherwise I buy from the corn merchant its more expensive but it's my favourite.

    Enjoy your Sunday.

    • Good morning all.
a bit on the dull side but it's due to pick up.
No plans for the day so it's a make it up as I go along.
We may go out for a drive later.
      Have a good day all.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.

      • Morning all, re the state of the forum site, it would seem no-one from the magazine has visited us in over a month, I have asked if the upgrade is completed and have had no reply. I guess it's up to those of us who still like visiting the site to make the best of it we can. I get the feeling this is it, us lot drifting along on the crest of a wave on an adventure to who knows where. Us mods will do our best to keep the place as usable as we can. Regards reading posts I use the "filter" tag on the green band at the top and usually choose "today". You can also click "forums" near the very top and access everything the same as we used to do.

            • I'm here for the folks, no doubt about that, and would feel a fraud posting pretty much the same stuff in two places.

As for the flour, I went and had a look at the website for the fancy-pantsy stuff. €19 for two sacks of 5 kg including transport, not one sack as I had misremembered it. Phew. So that's back on the list. Even if it is still a ridiculous price per kilo (by way of comparison, own-brand supermarket flour is about 23 cents a kilo here).

And you're right, Bren and LD, the quality of flour really does vary. I had no idea before I started buying direct from mills and specialist suppliers. I buy flour specially for cakes (very, very low strength) and it's made such a difference. So fine and even seems to come out the bag ready sifted.

              • Good Afternoon All I haven't been on the growing threads much at all since the upgrade, but that's because I haven't grown much this year However, I really don't know what I'd do without this thread, it keeps me sane and I think of you all as friends. Sunny here. The only dampener on the day is that I've just seen a rat under the shed

Hibou probably thinks she’s kind for sharing is 4 in a night a record? It does seem more than her usual one or two.

Flo I thought your rat problem was sorted not good if they’re back again already.

Its just starting to drop cool cool here so time to come indoors.

                    • Good evening all.
The weather was very grey and cool here today.
Didnt get a lot done but there's always tomorrow.
Spent a couple of hours catching up with my sister who lives in London.

I cant make any comment on flour as I dont bake very often these days.
I used to bake regularly when the grandkids were small but now they've all grown up and dont seem to bother.

As regards this site, I will always come here and feel I know you all even though we have never met.

Just to add...My husband had just finished a month of radiotherapy for prostate cancer.
He has been discharged and just needs 6 monthly visits.
For all the men on here...A simple blood test is all it takes to get checked.

Sorry, although I agree the blood test might be good for some men, in my husband's case it just led to months of worry, painful tests and eventually treatme t for severe anxiety because the "powers that be" couldn't believe the results were wrong

                        • ON the subject of prostate, yes i agree men should always get a check done,if having any waterworks bother, and yes i agree with you Greenish, mine was all prepped for a biopsy when he took ill, said him to frail even for anything other than hormone treatment, when theT levels get a lot higher,as without the biopsy no way of saying whether ok or bad news,it is down as suspected, and has got a pill to take each day,it helps the urine flow better from the tubes,it all depends on the person, and most likely the medi team dealing with the case,a relative has had the tests and yes, geepers creepers, but is the only way of knowing for sure, the palpation of it only lets the medic feel the lump, that is how the process all starts, sooooooooo,MEN do not be shy,its no worse than a female when examination is needed, and childbirth, thats my sixth peneth from my known knowledge

                            • Mornin Flon'all

Did you know Flo that my predictive text thingy throws up your name ( well ....Flon'all) whenever I type anything beginning with flo.....? I suppose I have been saying it for a few years eh?

No mice last night Bren...well not so far anyway. Four is about he max Hibou has brought in that we know about but we do find quite a few left over bits of tail or a foot or an internal organ ( usually when we've stepped in it
We reckon she must catch and eat at least 12 per day and the maximum we know about is 20...even our neighbour says he's never seen her withought a mouse in her mouth.
How she manages to eat cat food and biscuits too I've no idea cos she's not fat!...but we have seen her upchuck the mice when she's overeaten.
Doesnt sound very nice but at least she kills to eat and not just for the fun of it. Being rural we'd be inundated with mice if she didn't help out... So far this morning she's been catching and eating those long legged spiders even though she doesn't like the legs! And don't get me started on moths!
We had a friend years ago whose parents' cat used to regularly bring a wild rabbit through the cat flap during the night , plonk it on their bed and munch it's way through as much of it as it could...yuk or what??? It was a formidable cat...viscious thing...nothing like sweet Hibou!
so....now I've put you all off your breakfast (!) I think it's time for a brew
