Mmm, you're not convincing me on the doors It's hard to get pics because the space is a bit confined but when I open the back door, this is the view:

The washing machine will go of course (there's a third room beyond these two that will become the laundry*). I'm picturing this part with no door, shelves straight ahead and coats etc to the left. You can just see the prospective showeroom door on the right there. This is the view inside:

Maybe it's just me but I don't want wellies in my bathroom

*I did wonder about making this into a proper downstairs bathroom - it's about 9' x 10', so plenty of room for bath, shower, the works BUT I don't think I want to commit it to being a bathroom, really, as if my children ever leave home and I need to do less washing, I'd quite like to make it into a conservatory. Probably. Although I did have to queue for the bath lastnight (sometimes a shower just isn't the same!).
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Why can't you put the coats & wellies in the 'laundry' afterall it won't look much with a washer and tumble drier in it anyway? The shower/loo spaces are pretty small looking...I can see a loo getting used but would anyone really be happy with the teeny shower/hand-basin/loo space of the end 'room'? If it doesn't function well no-one will want to use it - take the wall down and put another bath in!
To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower

Ah but you haven't seen my laundry plans! I'm going to have a pulley airer, multiple sorting baskets, wall to wall shelves for said baskets, vintage cabinet for storing all the gubbins etc! Lot's of light, bright colours - no wellies allowed

But this does take me back to my point about a generous cloakroom v. cramped(ish) showeroom

Put them in the cupboard! I've never known anyone make a feature of a laundry room before...

Not really, as you said you had to queue for a bath last night...ask how much to make the two rooms one, then put in a bath (with a shower over)!

Where I've written 8' 5", that's the whole measurement of the two rooms! The showeroom bit is around 5' square.

              I have a combi boiler.

Had a plumber round this morning and he thinks that if I have a concertina door, replace the loo where it was, shower in the other back corner and a little basin opposite the loo we should be able to get everything in. That would leave me with the other small space for shelves, coat hooks etc.

It would certainly be tight but with a corner opening shower door, I think it would be satisfactory for a guest/occasional shower room.

              Any thoughts?
I'd go for it. Make sure you have enough space before fitting a rigid shower cubicle. Using a curtain on the side nearest the loo might avoid embarassment if someone a bit broad needs to 'go'.......

The NEXT question is what type of shower. Electric ones are fine if your fusebox/consumer unit is suitable, otherwise you end up having to re-wire as well. You can get showers that work off an 'instant' gas heater (they are supposed to be for caravans, and use bottled gas).

I'd prefer a sliding door to a concertina, but I don't think you could fit a slider...... I have seen a loo with narrow 'twin' doors (like double doors, but only taking up one door's worth of space).. Worth considering? Is the door really only 2 ft wide? if so, does it need changing at all?
Some people just want an available shower-room etc. Small is better than not-available.
The purpose of a fan is to get rid of steam as much as smell.....

Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

Hi Seahorse, I know I promised this earlier but got tied up with customers so here are the drawings I did for your room. It does show that there is plenty of room for the shower if you want one. As for the door, put a door that opens out rather than in, this way you will not feel cramped inside, and if you leave it open its just blocking the view of the coats, which is no real loss.

Mike, those are great! It does look very do-able. Thanks so much Now you say it, the opening outwards door is obvious but it just hadn't occured to me!

Yeah, I'd prefer an electric one but it's all a fair way from the fuse box. I had a plumber in earlier this week to fit a new boiler and he thought one running off that would be easier and cheaper. But... I'll get quotes on all the options.

They are actually the same package, planit fusion. Its a specialist kitchen package, which has a reasonable bathroom tag on.

The OH used to use a similar program, called Archi-summat-or-other ( keep thinking Architrave, but that's a door frame innit? ) He's still got the prog, but needs a dongle thingy to make it work and they cost an arm & a leg!

edit: Just remembered, it's called Arti-Cad
