  • Feeling sorry for meself...

Feeling realy down in the dumps this week with a horrible cold and cough, followed yesterday with a migraine. Had planned to do lots in the garden, but feeling rubbish, and anyway it's been too wet. Got made redundant after 20 years with the same firm back in February, completely out of the blue - I was sat at my desk typing an email when I got called to go to a conference room by my manager. That was it, never got to go back to my desk (often wonder what happened to that email), never got to say cheerio to anyone, my stuff was collected for me and I got escorted from the building. Don't remember much about February through April. Then I started coming out of it and began work on the garden - thank heaven for the garden and sowing / growing things - I think that's been my saviour. Just wish I could do more (have a bad back so can only do 15 / 20 minutes a day maximum on anything physical). Tuesday was my "termination" date which probably explains why I feel so sh*tty, and I've just heard my Dad's gone into hospital - we think it's gall stones, but they're not sure. I have to wonder what life's going to throw at me next.
Sorry folks, I know there are lots of people much worse off than me out there, and I will make the best of whatever happens, just needed to get this off my chest (wish I could get the cough off it too).
In need of some encouragement please.

Oh, love. That thing where they escort the newly redundant (and in shock) from the building as if they were criminals is enough to make anyone depressed. I hope you feel better soon, perhaps an upturn in the weather will help. It's a sad fact that once one thing has gone wrong then everything else seems to follow like some sort of avalanche of rotten luck, but it does stop.....eventually, though I know that at the time you just feel like shouting 'What next?' and 'Why me?' Just try to take things a little at a time, sort out the cough and be there for your Dad; family and health are everything, anything else is just the trimmings, tackle the non-essentials later. I do hope things start to change for the better for you in the near future and remember there's always some wag on the vine who'll at least make you smile. Love BM.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Wow Winky, sounds like you've had a rough time of it recently. The sacking sounds horrible - can't imagine how that felt.

Sure things will work out for you in the long term, good luck and keep up that positive attitude.

Sorry to hear your news Marion. No wonder you are feeling fed up. Getting out in the garden for a few minutes fresh air, tending to your plants is a super way of cheering yourself up. As SBP says, little treats work wonders as well - even if its only a chocci biscuit with your cuppa! They say things come in threes, and you've had your three. You sound a positive person, so I'm sure things are going to get better for you very soon! Do let everyone know how you get on. Best wishes. Bernie aka DDL

Thank you all for your support, and the cake(s). Feeling much better today, I've spent some time this morning 'pottering' in the garden, and as you all know, that's a balm to soothe everything. Apologies for the miserable post yesterday - a combination of a week of being knocked sideways with the cold, and then the news about my dad, just tipped the balance. Equilibrium is being restored as we speak - tea and chocci biscuits, plus Die Hard 4.0 - letting those negative vibes out by watching Bruce Willis kick the sh*t out of the baddies - love the scene with the car, tunnel and helicopter - yah!!

                    Hi Winky,
That's really awful the way that employers can treat people. I've had a similar experience with bad employers, decided to work for myself and have never looked back. At least you get to call the shots when you work for yourself .
Hope you have a better time soon.

                      Hi Winky

Ive been made redundant several times myself in the past and its horrible. They often can treat you (and it sound like what happened to you) like you have been sacked. That you worked for them in 20 years though they should have shown you some respect - what did they think you were going to do - steal all the companies secrets or chain yourself to the desk? Would have been fun to finish that email in a really revengeful way though - ever imagine what you would have typed?

One time following my redundancy - I ordered a cab to take me home and put it on the company account. I also still had the petty cash tin key, pure accident but hung onto it. My Dad showed me the error of my ways and I returned the key along with the cash for the cab but it wasnt till some days later and apparently it was pure bedlam cos they couldnt get any petty cash for all that time!

I hope you are feeling better and you continue to grow through this period of self discovery - always here to chat if you need me.

Thank you Tammy. I'm so sorry to hear that you've been through redundancy a number of times - once has been more than enough for me, but it seems in this day and age it happens frequently.
I appreciate the support that folk on the vine have given - just browsing the posts on the vine shows what a caring group of people you all are, and I hope to be able to offer my support to others in due course.

Hi Winky - what a rough time you've had gal. No wonder you feel down in the dumps. Did you hear about the lady who was trying to cheer her friend up? "When I'm down in the dumps I always treat myself to a new hat," she said. "Oh, I wondered where you got them from!" her friend answered!

Things will improve I'm sure. Look for a bright side - at the risk of sounding like a Monty Python film, I always reckon there is one.

What a rotten 3 months, I am not surprised you feel miserable. I find a good way is to turn it on its head and find a positive, here is yours:- Now you are not working for that miserable firm, every time the sun shines, you can spend time in your garden!!!
I am not meaning to make light of it, it has been an awful experience. ((((hugs))))
