Hmm, my photos are taken with an iPod, but I haven't updated it for about 5 years so I doubt its an update issue!

      Problematic photo’s uploaded for Penelype

      As per the title.

Tried to load Penelype's original, db error.

Made a copy in both photo gallery and paint, db error.

Resized and it let me load it???

Original photo was 1.3 meg so in theory should load.

I tried to load a photo of mine, 1.5 meg, db error. That said my uploads have always been smaller. Resized my photo and it loaded.

Conclusion, sizing guidelines are wrong or have changed? Would be interested to know if anyone has loaded a photo around 1 meg lately?

I tried uploading larger images that I've posted here before and each time I did, Chrome would crash.
The post would be held in memory "Restore Auto-Saved Content" but not the image.

                      • I was becoming convinced this was an Apple issue, but it isn't (unless Apple make Canon printers). Having scanned a page of a book onto my Mac (I have both Mac and Windows for work) and attempted to post it on here, the 1.45MB file would not upload. I then scanned the same page onto the Windows computer (1.39MB) and that will not upload either. Both give me the database error. I can only post the picture if I take a screenshot of it which is very tedious.

                        • 1.45 mb seems large to me, I aim at 500kb for images I post on line or email, I keep the images I want for "best" on my external hard drive, I shoot in RAW so some can be well over 10 mb.

                          • Yes, definitely too big. Taking a screen shot of it is reducing the file size. Emailing it to yourself or using an online image resizer does the same.
Some of mine are around 900kb.
I'm sure we were told the limit once.....but I do think it's changed!

                            This pic is 938.5KB

                            • Also I still get the original query which is if you try to upload a photo 5 times - even if you've only managed to upload one as the others are too big. The system remembers the ones that didn't upload and counts them as your 5 images!

                              This screen shot is 345.0KB.

I don't think you can go much over 950.?

                              • Emailing a photo may not resize it

Emailing a photo to yourself is not a reliable way of reducing the size. It depends on the mail client you use. Eg Gmail doesn't seem to do it for me but I have a corporate gmail account YMMV. Better to use a proper photo resizer such as Lit Photo (others are available - see your app store) then you can aim for a particular size.
