  • Well, it's finally over ....

Well folks, after two weeks in the ICU, several operations to repair the various complications caused by organ failure and myriad meetings with the doctors, my daughter in law finally died in the early hours of this morning from chronic alcohol abuse.

She leaves behind 3 daughters who have only every known their mother to be drunk or an alcoholic, my daughter (her gay life partner) who has done everything to get her sober, other members of her family and J and I thinking what a waste of a life.

She was 49 and despite being detoxed and dried out several times, always went back to the drink.

And for those who think it's ok, she started out as a social drinker.

For those who are like me and are recovering alcoholics - there but for the grace of God go we.

For those who brag about being drunk and hungover and like to post about how you're going to get drunk tonight, just remember what you're doing to your body and, more importantly, to those around you.

What a waste, as you say, Tony, and what horrific damage to so many people. At least you will all now be able to begin to repair your lives after this sad time.
Thank you for sharing this; it cannot have been easy. You have made us all more aware of our own drinking habits and the very real possibility of their getting out of hand. Blessings to your daughter and the children.

I'm sorry it turned out this way Tony & I understand your feelings towards drinking.
I find it difficult me to express my feelings in this situation even though I have been there myself.
To loose a loved one this way is never easy & my thoughts are with you.

Tony, so sorry to hear your sad news. I really don't know what to say but one thing I do know is that your daughter has a loving family to help her through the loss.

So sorry to hear your news, and my heart goes out to your daughter and her family for having to go through this for no good reason.

Having been told on Friday that my kidneys are no longer functioning correctly (not due to alcohol!) it really brings it home that a glass of wine is not really worth it...
