I'm so sorry to read about your bad news. It seems that some people are born with one skin too few. They try and replace it with whatever gives them the feeling of being a bit less vulnerable. Sadly drink can do that. I hope that your daughter and her family can come together to make sure they protect each other, whilst mourning the passing of someone so important to them. My heartfelt sympathies to you all.

So sorry to hear your news Tony. I hope your daughter is able to stay being a 'mum' to her partner's girls (I'm guessing it might all be a bit complicated?) and that they can help each other through such a sad time. xx

                            Hi folks

Just wanted to say thanks so much for all the messages of support and sympathy from you all and some very nice private messages too.

Spoke to J and daughter last evening, they spent the days with DiL's daughters and it seems that there is a sense of relief across the board which is even sadder.

I feel rather out of it here in France whilst they're in the UK but that's the way it is, we're just waiting for a date now for the funeral so I can go back to the UK and see everybody.

But again, many thanks to all those who have responded and if Pat's death has made one or two people think about the damage they may be doing to themselves, perhaps it's had some purpose.

Thanks so much from all of us, I'm sure, for sending such a thoughtful message in the midst of all this turmoil.
Maybe the sense of relief will bring some healing and comfort too as well as the sadness - I do hope so.
