My Husband's Boss: Ignores Christmas - is he tight, or miserable?

He and his family do celebrate Christmas, so it's not a religious issue. But his staff get nothing, not a christmas box, dinner or even a card! Last year he did text Happy Christmas, to those he had a mobile number for. This year - nothing!!!!

My Dad: Give him an idea, and he'll 'poo-poo' it. Six months later, he'll come up with the same, now brilliant, idea, and want all the credit!

Another one of my Dad's (yes, I've been saving them up! LOL): He'll ask someone to help him with a job, then he'll disappear, only coming back when they've finished. Usually to criticise what they've done. Then, later, he'll tell anyone who'll listen, how long it took him to do, how hard it was, and how good it is!!!!

Neither I'd say - I'm not over keen on it now, too commercial and I'm not tight (*checks purse) and I don't think I'm miserable.

I dislike the Christmas card thing, on grounds of wasted money, trees etc - but I'm sure there is a counter argument for that.

I'm not one for Christmas either: I'm not a Christian and I don't like rampant consumerism (whichever church it is we are supposed to worship at now)

I think birthdays are more important, so tend to give more for those. I only do Xmas (decorations etc) because I'm expected to. I'm always the one to get them out the loft, put them up, take them down then get back up in the loft - might not bother next year

Small company (about 50 people total) that I worked for for many years. Every Xmas everyone felt obliged to send everyone else in the company a card. Then one person (unfortunately not me) had a bright idea, rather than swapping all those cards we sent a brown envelope round and donated the contents to a local charity. Much better in my opinion.

This year at work we had a paper christmas tree on the wall in the staffroom and for £1 ( charity ) you could buy a paper bauble to stick on with a message, there was only a few.

Excellent idea - I truly cannot see the point in sending Christmas cards to people 'you ' see everyday

Not sent Christmas cards to people I work with for years and don't really like getting them either as it's a bit embarrassing. Do bring in a big tub of choccies for everybody though.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I love making Christmas cards so everyone usually gets one whether they want one or not! Having said that, I don't see anyone every day so - in my defence m'laud...

We didn't put up any decorations this year, sometimes we do, sometimes we don't, depends if I can be bothered to argue to have them put up.

I think, though, that if I had "staff" I would make the effort and at least bring in cakes or biscuits on the last working day and, if I could afford it, perhaps a little bonus. We always used to get together where I worked and bring in home made goodies which was a nice idea and cheap.

We have a secret santa at school, and it was very good this year: everyone really put in the effort. We all brought in a dish for a staffroom buffet too, and had lunch together: teachers, Head, caretaker, dinner ladies and caretaker

This wasn't supposed to be a thread about the pros and cons of Christmas. Just the strange, weird or downright annoying things that some people do.

However, I do agree with many of your Christmas comments. I just think the ungrateful g*t could at least acknowledge their hard work and their existence once a year! They have now taken to having their own social get-together - and they don't invite the Boss!
