  • Do you get bored of gardening?

As per the question, I've been completely unmotivated this week, to the point that the brocolli flowers have opened and I've had to force myself to go and chop them off tonight and just throw them on the compost heap. The slugs are out in force, they massacred the pumpkin and squashes and eaten the peas that have been knocked to the ground.

I've been really busy at work and travelling today and tomorrow for a course so am extra tired.

What do you do to get back into it?

I never get bored of gardening, but sometimes it seems too much hassle to go to the lottie, but when I do go I enjoy it so much I want to go everyday. I try and go two or three times a week.

If I got bored with gardening I would be out of a job I do get bored with this wet weather though, I have lost 7 days to rain this month

I think if you are tired and busy, give it a break for a few days otherwise it will become a chore.

Yeah sometimes I do, mainly if I am tired. I Always find that a good kip puts me back in the right mood to battle the slugs

            Never!

I get bored at work............... but once I get to the allotment each evening after work, I get a new lease of life!

Never get bored with it - tired and frustrated sometimes, but never bored.

Cutting the lawn bores me rigid. It's just so blinkin' tedious, which is why OH does it.......constant fight with the strimmer feedline, having to stop and unclog the Hover mower blade if the grass is damp, which is with all the rain lately.

He's going to be out there doing battle today, sodden grass or not, as my AP's are coming for a few days. Not that he's aware of this as he's still in the land of nod.

Even more boring, I will be stuck in the house wielding a duster and some Pledge.......I want to be outside communing with my chooks they put a whole new spin on gardening.

If you'd asked this a month ago I'd have said, no, absolutely not, never, I've been gardening for over forty years and still never bored..... etc, etc, etc. But I'm actually now finding it really difficult to get motivated. I had a bug a few weeks ago which left me exhausted, but although I'm fine now the allotment just seems too much. I'm lucky in that OH is well and keeping on top of things, but the thoughts of gardening at the moment just depresses me. I'm still there twice daily at the very least as we have chickens to feed and care for, but I'm even abdicating much of that responsibility to OH at present too.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

glad this thread was started as it proves (kind of!), that I'm normal after all. I keep telling myself how lucky I am, how healthy the kids are, etc, etc, etc and yet I STILL managed to have two tubfuls, yes TWO, of over-ripe (is that the right phrase I wonder?) of mange touts that were all fat and horrible that I had to pick off yesterday and throw in the compost! I kept telling myself how stupid I was to let them get to that stage when I had worked so hard to grow them and keep them from the slugs........

My BIL had open heart surgery yesterday and when we were allowed into ICU late last night to see him, he kept gagging on the ventilator as he wanted it out. The nurses kept telling him to try and relax as it would be easier for him but he was getting really upset. I found myself doing what's called a guided visualisation for him (ex hypnotherapist) to help him relax and the 'journey' I took him on was all around our place, through the veggies and the chickens, I could describe every bed in detail....it was quite amazing how quickly he was able to relax and let the machine do it's stuff. So my point is, maybe I should remember how relaxing it all is and get myself into it a bit more often......rather than thinking how much of a 'chore' it's going to be with all this rain!

I have had a bad bout of hayfever and a tummy bug and it has left me a tad weary....I am definitely not at the lottie as much as I would be usually just as I have no energy. Starting to feel a bit better now so hopefully back on track.

Doesn't help when you get caught in downpours every time you go though, does it?

Never get tired of gardening but do get tired of folk telling me i should be taking it easy at my time of life, im only 70+ and i started late at 68, so much to learn and im loving every minute of it.

Happy gardening everyone and if you don't want to do it today thats OK there is always tomorrow and every new year is a new start with great expectations.

Not bored of gardening but totally bored and fed up with the weather. I don't want to go and do weeding in the rain (again!), the hassle of wet clothes and bits over the carpet drives me mad - in july!!!!

I open the fat ones and eat the peas inside!

Hope your BIL recovers well soon.
