    Pretty Reptile Food dishes (herbivores)

    High all, I joined this forum last year for some tips on growing my own stuff, this year it is comming to that time of year again where I will be asking for some advice on growing other similar food items (like turnips for the greens) which I tried last year and failed miseribly.


    But here is some of the food dishes I offerd last year for the reptiles and the kind of diets I really should be feeding, hope you enjoy them.

            Add some hard boiled eggs (Chook, I hasten to add) to that and you've got my tea - apart from the petals. I do add flowers to salads in the Summer - I'll look up that word, make sure it's correct - depending on what's bloom.

              Thanks all, these are the iguanas, who I am forced to slave for, their diets are so specific (both of mine were took away from neglectful homes) because they are so difficult temperment wise, they grow so big, and their diets are so specific, I do try hard for them, unfortunately with these reptiles in particular everything about captivity works agains't them, and I just want the best for them, and I think at least giving them the right diet is the very least I can do for them.

              Here they are.

              Albus and Minerva (Harry Potter theme) These guys would really love some turnip greens, and I have tried to grow them with no success.

                    By turnip greens, do you mean the leaves from the tops of turnips - or is it some mysterious oriental veg?

                      Hi yes I do feed Pack Choi (as it is known here) the problem is it has other nutritonal short commings so I am imprivising with it, but it isn't really the best food for them, Turnip Greens are one of the foods they can eat as much of as they want if that makes sense, it is extremely high in calcium which is (one of the most important aims to be trying to ahcieve in their diet. At the moment I am also imprivising by feeding more Spring green leaves (which we can get, but the turnip greens would be a highly appreciated part of that diet.

                      @veggiechicken, yes it is the tops from turnips (the leafy parts), I have tried so hard to find them here in the UK, I have tried going to the allotmants, every single month and asking (no one has any) our supermarkets don't sell the, my green grocer can't locate them, and they haven't grown for me

                      I feel a bit like Baldric from Blackadder, (searching for a decent turnip lol)

                        Could you grow them as microgreens - just as you would grow mustard and cress in a shallow tray.

                          I do grow mustard greens for them well Mustard cress or hedge mustard as some people will call it, and that grows so easily, I have no problems doing that and I am attempting to grow red mustard and curly mustard for them this year too (first time ever) I have tried growing turnips in a number of ways (including in the trays) and in loose soil and they just never seem to sprout? I think I am doing something wrong? am I supposed to do somethign with the seeds before planting them? like soak them overnight or something? if it grows as small shoots like that? I have no issue with it, it would still be better than nothing.

                          Here is Albus's story when he came, I have to put extra thought into his diet because of a previously wrong one, he is now suffering kidney damage.

                              I live in Crewe Nantwich, it is only a small town, and we live even further more secluded than most people so far I don't know of any in my area, and I don't drive either. So I wouldn't know where to start looking. if I did find one selling some things, it would be much easier, I have constantly harassed my local supermarkets to get them in for the last few years.
