Don't know if you friends down south have had the opportunity to see the program celebrating the Beechgrove Garden which has been going since 1978, a most enjoyable show with good presenters who has shared a lot of garden knowledge. I hope it goes on for a long time yet

It's the most down-to-earth gardening programme on the TV. They tell it like it is, and I particularly like their flower and veg trials. I remember them growing sweet potatoes in pots a few years ago. The outcome? Don't bother! At least - don't bother in Aberdeen and similar chilly spots.Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.Comment

I wish I understood what I was missing. I'm really sorry, but I tried it on recommendations from on here and was really disappointed. The filming seemed poor, the presenters awkward and nothing particularly interesting in the topics. :-/ I'm not meaning to cause offense - I'm genuinely sad I somehow don't get it, I badly need another gardening programme!Comment

I'll hear nothing said against the Beachgrove Garden. 1st met Jim during a Young Farmers visit to Oldmeldrum Distillery. They were growing tomatoes from waste heat - 70's.
However it is an opportunity to start a poll best Gardening Presenter.

I think it was maybe the style of production that I struggled with, I have nothing against the people involved.
You're right, horses for courses! I admire and respect most of the presenters. Monty does give me the warm and fuzzies and the photography in GW is just out of this world, but I can totally understand how some people can't stand it.
I really just want a programme that deals with growing edibles with luscious visuals.
Carol Klein really knows her stuff, but her style of presenting sets my teeth on edge... that's my issue, not hers.

I like both programmes. I think the Beechgrove crew are a lot homelier. One or two GW bods are poseurs and as for those schlocks who wear jeans whilst presenting Chelsea I think it's disrespectful!Riddlesdown (S Croydon)Comment

I have watched Gardening on tv since the days of black and white and only 2 channels to choose from, have to say most of the presenters are ok, some are good and the odd ones very good. Since the loss of Geoff Hamilton, the tv gardening has been less of a must see for me, I don't mind if I miss Gardeners World as it seems to be of tv entertainment and less about actually gardening where you might learn something. I like Beechgrove and do make a point of watching it, partly I guess because I am still learning about what will and what won't survive up here in Polar Bear country.Comment

I've only just started watching gardening tv, must be getting old i guess
. GW is the only one I've watched, and I do that secretly on catchup, as my OH would probably leave me if I demanded we watch it on a Friday night. It could do with a bit more veg-related stuff IMO, but I guess it has to cover all bases, and it's more about entertainment and relaxation than real learning, I think, which is fine. I liked it the other week when Monty's dog photobombed the shot and they left it in.
