  • Leek bug

We dug up some of our leeks today. Apart from the fact I was a tad late in sowing them so they were still a bit small ( will they grow anymore?) we noticed some little bugs On some of them , we have goggled them and they seem to be allium leaf miner pupae. Does anyone else agree and has anyone else had problems with them? Can we still eat the leeks ( obviously after thorough cleaning ! )

Depending on where you are, it'll either be allium leaf miner or leek moth larvae. You'll need to net your leeks in future, it's a pain.

They won't grow much now before spring, but you'll get some more growth then. Mine are still like grass, I put them in far too late

They were netted for a while when they first went in but normal net , would the debris netting be a better option ?

What d'ya class as normal net?

I use debris netting, but you'd need to sew the big black holes up

Voile or enviromesh would be bestest: the holes need to be smaller than a housefly could squeeze through holding its breath
