  • Cabbage white fly

Have just pulled up the last of the cabbages as they have alot of white fly.

What shall I do with them? Can they be composted?

And also do I have to be careful of what I plant in that bed - I was going to put potatoes and shallots in.

Yes, compost them. Whitefly doesn't affect potatoes or alliums.

To reduce numbers in future (they are a ruddy nuisance, and shrug off winter weather) keep your brassicas clean ... remove any yellowing leaves, esp. those on the ground.

French or Mexican Marigolds offer some deterrance, but only during the summer. However, they significantly reduced the infestation on my brassicas, so I will be growing them alongside again this year.
