  • Help Gooseberry Problem

Can someone help me, I'm new to here and to growing gooseberries. I have one plant at moment, well almost one plant, it was fine this morning by this lunchtime it has almost gone. The gooseberries on it are ok so far... but the leaves have all been eaten away, I have found tiny little green caterpillars no other markings on them chomping their way through the plant, I spent an hour picking the little blighters off, can anyone advise what they could be? I thought they may have been gooseberry sawfly but everywhere I have looked say they have black heads and black spots, mine have nothing. Please help.....

You have saw fly indeed. They will clean the leaves of a bush in hours, it will recover but will enjoy a bit of tlc, some feeding, mulching and a good watering will help it.

All you can really do now is pick off the caterpillers you find.

Hi Dreamcatcher, I think they only get the spots & black markings when they grow a bit bigger the tiniest ones always seem to be plain green, the little bu****s have been at mine as well!
