unforntunatly its in the form of slugs snails and ants all found this morning. how do i know if my peas & beans are just very slow or if they've been munched?

have a gentle furtle and see if there are still seeds in the ground.
I never sow direct in the ground - always in pots first, otherwise the slugs get em.
