You should keep your thermometer in the shade, not in the sun, or else you don't get an accurate reading. If it's really 50c in the shade, you need some more ventilation I just checked and my top temp was 20C in the greenhouse (louvres & auto vents open, shades pulled down. Ideal)

someone else said Norwich was the hottest place at 29C yesterday, while the newspapers say the hottest part of the country was Heathrow at 28C

Hit 29C in the car yesterday, but not sure how accurate it is. All I know is it was hot on the bike last night.

I'm not complaining - although I don't cope well in heat I rather like it.

ooo...i'm curious to know where you grew up....i lived in south east asia as a child, and only coped with the 40 degree temps by spending the day in the swimming pool!!.

30 degrees in the back garden yesterday, probably a bit of a micro climate going on..... didn't get much in the way of gardening done!

Spent most of the day looking after my chicks who have just come off heat, and were wilting fast! Found them a nice shady patch, and spritzed them with water!

I spent yesterday afternoon in the greenhouse potting on, it had to be done,and I don't have any other time to do it, so i roasted, on the plus side,you pay a lot of money for those expensive body wraps that make you sweat to lose weight so hey-ho,mine was free
Then I went up the polytunnel, and it was a bit warm there too.
I'm not complaining, it makes my plants grow bigger faster strongeror something

Nipped back to the plot about 9ish last night to do a bit of watering and it was busier than it's been all weekend with everybody taking advantage of such a lovely evening.

I had to do some potting on yesterday in the plastic/blowaway greenhouse, which has had a zip broken since we bought it, so that the door only opens a tiny bit on one side. The sweat was pouring off me, so I had to keep coming outside into the sunshine to cool off.

So yes, I finally cracked, got some scissors and thread and fixed that stupid door.

The heat isn't my favourite weather, but I'd much rather have it than all the rain and snow we had at the beginning of the year. At least you can get something done in it...me I like warm cloudy day's with a bit of sun poking it's head through now and again.

Well I thought it was brilliant! First decent weather I've had for weeks.

I (more or less!) levelled the site for my garden shed, weeded, dug and planted a largish bed and started in on the ground elder I found in my raspberry frame.

Must run on solar batteries!

ETA: That was over Saturday and Sunday!

So yes, I finally cracked, got some scissors and thread and fixed that stupid door.

The good lady machine sewed velcro to thin strips of material and then hand sewed the strips over the zips to fix the busted zip on ours - but she is very good with material as she's a fabric artist, I can be a bit of an artist too at times but I specialise in alcohol
