An interesting thread dinky doo - and thanks jonty for all those statistics and graphs - VERY impressive! It just goes to show the differences around the country - I reckon that everyone is just very happy with their little lottie, no matter what the cost? Am I right? Bernie aka Dexterdog

Blimey-I'm beginning to feel hard done by. Here in east london it's £ 62 for whole plot but we do have water and toilets. Horse poo is also delivered free (that poo fairy certainly gets around) and they'll deliver to your particular site if you're quick enough!

Our rent works out at £3.04 per rod, so that means £30.40 per year for the two.

Facilities - well we have stand pipes and there are some bushes around for the gents to pee in, nothing for us girlies unless you want to wander across to tesco or have a shed and convenient empty bucket. Don't want to worry the neighbours.

Could do with some pony poo delivered but I think I'll have to organise that myself.

I pay about (cant find papers) £11.00. This for a full plot and Allotment Assocation fees. No loos on site and rainwater as caught into SPJ's around site - a long walk rom my plot. No poo fairy, but can order at £35 a load, if you can get order in at right time.

Some are Snadger are some are 10, some are inbetween. I find it best not to ask as to the rationale for this. Most people seem happy with a smaller plot especially if they are on their own. As you can see we have 10 rod which is not quite enough for everything we want to plant so we will shortly be taking on a third which is probably the worst plot in the whole of Southampton. We will be paying our rent but the council will be clearing it for us of strange structures that housed goats, weird fences and sundry other garbage. We'd do it ourselves at no rent for the rest of this year and half rent next but don't quite have the time.

When sorted that will be the place for the herb spiral, medicinal and magickal herbs and flowers, most of the remaining fruit and permanent beds. Then anything else we still have room for. We aim to make it look really attractive as it is right at the entrance to the site.
