    I have a friend that used two layers of cheap black plastic for a large goldfish pond. Under the plastic he put old carpeting, so the plastic wouldn't get punctured by rocks, sticks, etc. in the soil. He had to replace it about once a year because it would start leaking. I've seen people use a kiddie pool set in the ground for a pond also. Lastly, rubber roofing can be used as a liner.
